Chapter 52

Teddy's heart filled with vague unease. He wanted to raise his hand and say something more.

But in the next second, the truck's engine roared to life.

That sharp, cold spiked ramming attachment slammed forward. BANG—instantly demolishing the carelessly stacked abandoned vehicles.

Teddy lost his balance and fell, grabbing the roof of an abandoned vehicle as he rolled with it to the ground.

Caesar shifted into reverse, then stomped the gas pedal hard. The truck roared and charged forward again.

Compared to the first time, this impact devastated the abandoned vehicles with overwhelming force, clearing a path through them.

Caesar didn't release the gas pedal. The truck charged straight ahead, surging into Buffalo Pass.

Hearing the sound of bullets piercing the truck's armor, Caesar instinctively ducked down, then glanced at the rearview mirror.

He saw Teddy and his underlings jumping up and down in fury, cursing, shooting at him with their guns.

The truck followed the pass, turned inward, and disappeared from Teddy's sight.

Teddy watched the truck that had crashed through the checkpoint disappear. He turned around, wanting to use his gun to force the following vehicles to stop and prevent them from running the checkpoint.

Unexpectedly, the moment he stuck his head out, his eyes widened instantly, his mouth opening slightly.

Those trucks were like ferocious beasts, charging forward with unstoppable momentum.

With the tonnage of these trucks, they could obliterate the crude blocking measures in an instant.

Modified pickups flanked the trucks on both sides—their tonnage clearly wasn't low either, and their speed was even greater.

Two pickups surrounding one truck could completely clear away all the abandoned vehicles.

Sure enough, in the next moment, Teddy along with the abandoned vehicle in front of him were sent flying.

Blood drifted through the air. Fragments of bodies floated past. Teddy watched helplessly as he was struck and torn apart.

SPLAT—Teddy hit the ground. The abandoned vehicle that had been in front of him also crushed down on top of him.

Without even managing a sound, Teddy was completely flattened into a meat pancake.

Not just him—his underlings met the same fate, all like tomatoes smashed on the ground, forming pools of bloody patterns.

Dust flew. Smoke gradually rose.

The pickups and trucks that had crashed through the checkpoint stopped. Combat personnel looked at the pools of mangled flesh and blood on the ground, involuntarily covering their mouths and dry-heaving.

The force of the trucks was too powerful. Applied directly to human bodies, they were utterly shattered—barely recognizable as human anymore.

Caesar drove his truck, turned around to come back, and also caught sight of those pools of traces on the ground. The corner of his eye twitched slightly. He quickly waved his hand. "Get in the vehicles, get in the vehicles. Clear the entrance."

"Cover all the bodies, then let the family cars and others come through."

Several combat personnel moved efficiently, grabbing shovels and turning over the soft earth, directly covering the remains—barely concealing them.

"Merle, go get Carol. Have her bring people straight in."

"You got it!"

Merle held his gun, kicking at an abandoned vehicle with his foot.

That abandoned vehicle had landed on its side, swaying unsteadily. It looked unstable, like it would flip over at any moment.

Merle straddled his motorcycle, popped the clutch for a racing start, and shot out of the pass.

Daryl took over Merle's previous work. He kicked hard, and the abandoned vehicle toppled over, stirring up a cloud of dust.

When Daryl saw clearly what was beneath the abandoned vehicle, a thick bloody stench hit him. Daryl's face went pale and he turned around.

Honestly, Daryl felt his tolerance for these things was pretty good. After all, he'd been a hunter since childhood, killed plenty of animals, seen plenty of death.

But the scene before him still made him uncomfortable.

That corpse had been forcibly torn into pieces, then each piece had been crushed. The flesh under the skin squeezed out like pulp. The head had completely caved in, transforming from three-dimensional directly to two-dimensional.

Caesar naturally saw it too. He grabbed a shovel and stepped forward to turn over dirt piles, burying the body.

With that kind of devastation, the head flattened like that, brain matter completely drained—it wouldn't turn into a walker either.

Quickly resolving the trouble, the family cars and some supply-storage trucks entered. Jenner's laboratory truck and Guillermo's escort team also slowly came in.

Jenner sat in the laboratory truck's passenger seat. Seeing the remaining bloodstains outside, he knew what had happened. His brows furrowed tightly. He understood he needed to accept this cruel apocalypse.

So Jenner got out of the vehicle and found Caesar.

"You're sure?" Caesar looked at Jenner with surprise. His request felt rather bold.

Jenner nodded solemnly. He looked at Merle, Daryl, and the others standing beside Caesar.

They were all combat squad leaders who'd fought walkers many times. They understood the danger of walkers and understood the meaning behind Caesar making everyone fight walkers.

But they didn't think much of Jenner.

Because when organizing non-combatants to fight walkers previously, Jenner had asked Caesar if he could skip it.

Caesar had agreed—after all, Jenner truly was valuable.

Precisely because of this, combat squad leaders like Merle and Daryl looked down on his weak appearance.

Jenner had thought about it these past two days. He couldn't keep avoiding things. Having chosen to survive in the apocalypse, he needed to accept this world.

So Jenner appeared before Caesar.

"Alright then!"

Caesar used the shovel to turn over the dirt before them. Mm, this was exactly Teddy pieced back together.

"Yue~" Jenner overestimated himself. He turned around, dropped to his knees, and vomited violently.

"Hahahaha!!"

Merle, who'd known it would be like this, threw his head back laughing, clutching his stomach as he doubled over.

Daryl also snorted with laughter. Carol crossed her arms, a faint smile on her face.

Amy's complexion wasn't much better. She hid behind Caesar, refusing to look at what was on the ground.

Caesar didn't continue tormenting him. He used dirt to cover it again.

After all convoy vehicles had passed through, Caesar gave the order.

One truck after another pushed the abandoned vehicles back to the pass entrance, hoisting some vehicles to stack on top of each other.

A new defensive line was reestablished. Compared to before, though no more solid, it no longer had toll-collecting bandits.

Caesar drove the lead truck, guiding the convoy ahead.

The roads inside the valley were all dirt roads, unlike the paved roads outside. Heavy vehicles like trucks needed to be especially careful advancing through the valley.

The truck's roof occasionally scraped against surrounding tree branches.

Good thing this truck wasn't his own purchase—Caesar didn't feel bad about it.

Soon Caesar's eyes caught sight of his ranch's fencing and the traces of various buildings inside.

When Caesar glimpsed the positions of those ranch fence lines, his eyes narrowed slightly.

The procession of trucks made quite a commotion.

Three people had been left guarding the ranch: elderly Lloyd, black cowboy Colby with the white hat, and mature, steady Ryan.
