Chapter 6 - Chapter 6

The wide fields stretched endlessly beneath the bright afternoon sky.

The soft wind carried the scent of grass and soil across the quiet farm.

For a moment, the three of them simply stood there.

It felt strange.

No farmers shouting across the fields.

No workers tending the animals.

No carts moving back and forth.

Just silence.

Lucas crossed his arms and looked around the massive land. Rows of crops swayed gently in the wind, and wooden fences stretched across the fields separating different sections of animals. Chickens wandered freely near one of the barns, clucking softly as they pecked at the ground. Farther away, a group of cows lazily grazed in a wide pasture.

"It's bigger than I remembered," Lucas said, raising an eyebrow.

I closed my book and looked around too.

The farm truly was huge. There were long crop fields filled with vegetables and wheat, a tall red barn near the center, and several fenced areas for animals. A dirt path curved through the land leading toward a small wooden house, probably used as a resting place for the farmers during long workdays.

Behind it stood a storage shed packed with tools and supplies.

And yet… the place felt almost abandoned today.

"Where is everyone?" Lucas asked.

I glanced toward the quiet barn.

"They're probably on their day off today," I said. "Father mentioned the workers would be resting."

Lucas chuckled lightly.

"So we have this whole place to ourselves?"

"Seems like it."

Our sister stepped forward, spinning slowly as she looked across the fields.

"Wow… it's peaceful."

The only sounds were the wind brushing through the crops and the distant mooing of cows.

Lucas stretched his arms.

"Well then," he said with a grin. "Since we're the only ones here… what do we explore first?"

The farm was massive.

The barns.

The animal pens.

The storage sheds.

Even the quiet little house by the field.

And with no one else around…

It almost felt like the entire place belonged to them for the day.

"What do you think?" Lucas asked, glancing at us.

Lucas led the way along the dirt path, his boots crunching softly against the ground. Leon followed, his hands resting casually on his hips, while I trailed behind, glancing around at the fields.

The rows of crops were neatly planted, stretching far into the distance. Wheat swayed gently in the breeze, and the vegetables—cabbages, carrots, and turnips—looked healthy and well-tended. A few scarecrows stood watch over the fields, their tattered hats and old clothes flapping slightly in the wind.

"Looks like everything's in order," Lucas said, scanning the fields. "The farmers did a good job even with a day off."

Leon nodded. "Yeah, it's nice to see the farm so organized."

We approached the fenced animal pens next. Cows chewed lazily on the grass, their movements slow and calm in the quiet morning. Goats bleated softly as they climbed over the low fences, while a few chickens scattered around, pecking at the ground.

Lucas crouched near one of the cows, reaching out a hand. "Hey there, big guy," he said with a grin. The cow lifted its head, snorted softly, and went back to grazing.

Leon laughed quietly. "You're way too friendly with animals, Lucas."

"Of course," he replied with a shrug. "Someone has to keep them company."

I walked slowly along the path, watching the small wooden house in the middle of the farm. Its dark roof and simple structure looked inviting, a quiet place to rest if we needed a break.

"This is really peaceful," I murmured to myself. The quiet air, the soft sounds of animals, and the gentle sway of crops—it was completely different from the mansion at home, where every step felt like a test.

Lucas glanced at me. "You don't say much, Kael. Just observing, huh?"

I gave a small nod, focusing on the rhythm of the farm around us. For once, it felt nice to just walk and watch, without anyone pushing me to do anything.

Leon smiled. "Well, we have the whole day here. Let's take it easy and check everything thoroughly."

Lucas clapped his hands together. "Alright then. Let's start with the crop fields and move to the animals after. Sound good?"

I nodded again, and we continued down the wide dirt paths, walking side by side. The farm stretched endlessly around us, bathed in sunlight, peaceful and quiet—ours to explore for the day.

Lucas grabbed a small watering can from the shed while Leon picked up a basket.

"Alright," Lucas said, smiling. "Let's start with the crops. The vegetables need watering first."

I followed quietly, carrying my own tools. The dirt paths were warm under my feet, and the sunlight made the green of the plants almost glow.

Lucas moved confidently along the rows, carefully watering the plants. Leon checked the leaves for any signs of pests or damage. I simply observed, gently brushing my hand over the tall stalks of wheat as I walked.

"Kael, you're just standing there again," Lucas called. "Come on, help with the watering."

I nodded and bent down, filling the small can and sprinkling water over the nearest row of vegetables. It was oddly calming, the simple motion of caring for the plants.

As I worked, a faint shimmer of light flickered in my vision.

I froze for a moment.

Was that… the system?

A translucent window appeared briefly before my eyes.

I blinked rapidly, unsure if I had imagined it.

Lucas and Leon were busy in their own tasks, completely unaware of the faint glow hovering in front of me.

I bit my lip, staring at the floating interface. It's… active again.

I shook my head slightly, forcing myself to focus on the watering. The crops needed attention, and the soft murmur of the farm felt almost comforting compared to the strange pulse of energy in my mind.
