Chapter 1 - Children Of The Stars

Up above in the sky, the beautiful stars glitter in the moonlit night, their brilliance Shadowing the high moon. We lay on the still warm dunes as we gaze at them, admiring the magnificence. We'd look up the sky and search for the stars we were born after. We wouldn't sleep in our rooms unless our mother told our fathers before we can go to sleep crying.

The nights will pass with the occasional howling of the wind from the ranges in the distance. By then, we would have forgotten our cries already and enjoying blissful dreams, not ready to wake up to work the following morning.

In the morning, the mothers will wake us up to observe morning hygiene, but do you know? We'd escape the village to play in the sands until man and floor were indistinguishable, laughing and giggling foolishly as we played with our imaginative minds.

By then, the fathers and the young man, mostly their first borns would be going out in search for other oasis while hunting wild beasts that may cross their way, make for a protein based supper. The mothers would be busy at the outskirt preparing meals in wait for their husbands and children.

They would call out to us, seeking our help in the kitchen regardless of gender. The more timid ones would stop playing and go help the woman afraid of their mothers' threats about discipline from their husband.

And as the little trouble maker of our home, I would lead my friend s out into the sand waves to play without a care in the world. We called out to the sun high up in the sky in loud shouts while standing on the steep heaps of sand only to bolt into sprints after our voice cause an avalanche.

Then came that day, when the foreigners arived, they said they were lost in the desert and couldn't find their ways home, praising their gods for helping them find shelter in our huts. We surrounded them like barbarians would a modern automotive clamoring excitedly while the slightly grown ones would attempt at driving us away with aim of creating comfort for the foreigners.

The mothers stood in the distance barely suppressing their excitement at the thought of the increment in our population. The village chief, a weary old gentleman who had known the world spoke with them with a toothless grin in a language I later came to know was called vocemian.

That night we celebrated without sleep in all our magnanimity and hospitality, sacrificing a third of the treasures of each house to the altars the the temple of the stars. We named the foreigners like ourselves as we couldn't understand them.

Life was fulfilling and we were all happy, we slept for a night, twice, but there was no third as we found our doors broken and our belongings taken. The foreigners have called for their brethren, given information and power they became invaders that ravaged our homes. The fathers and the young men fought them but it was all for naught, as as in nature, a mortal can withstand the power of the divine, in our case the divine being the invaders wielding powers of sorcery.

The mothers cried out running into our rooms in search of us, they found us with terrified faces, fearful we couldn't make a sound the mother led us the the windows where a few people were stationed to lead us out of the terror stricken oasis out into the desert.

We sprinted away looking back as we saw our supposed new neighbours harvesting the lives of our parents like a farmer would a wheat filled. We could see them looting the temples for the stones we used to give the divine stars.

We quicken our paces fleeing before anyone could see us.

Later, we couldn't sleep the image of the destruction of our world couldn't be forgotten in our psych, some of us have died of hunger, other of asphyxiation after running too long a time to be considered normal for a child. There were only three of us left, numb of the worthlessness of our existence we made a choice to go back to our village to hunt the ones who have pillaged our homes.

On our way, we'd encounter villains who seek to captures us but based on geographic advantages we were always able to kill them.

Their bodies, our food, their blood, our drink, we survived the gruesome leatity for months until we made it back to our former home.

It hadn't changed much, just more devastated and more ransacked. The treacherous people seem to have noticed the disappearance of some of their numbers but we couldn't feel worried at all I was surprised and I didn't know if my two companions were but I thought they were too as we all haven't been feeling like we normally should.

We slowly used underhanded and despicable method to dwindle our numbers all the while we could feel our unexpected growth increase over time, we knew we were becoming something abominable but we only knew our responsibility is to avenge the village

It seemed like the stars were with us until we met the guardian of the invaders. He had the power to perseive the changes in space and unfortunately he found us, they killed us without suspense but it was only after a devastating fight where my two companions died each leaving their core for me to feast upon to boost my strength, becoming even more abominable, I didn't move to avenge them but rather moved towards the celestial temple.

Surprised by my unexpected move the invaders staired at me dumbfoundedly until the saw me open my mouth with such madness that my jaw split open at the hinges. I ate a mouthful of the treasures the invaders have killed us for chewing away the diamond hard christals like there was no tomorrow mouth bloodied, faced scraped, I watched as the enraged marauders charged at me but unexpectedly when I have thought I'd accomplished my goals and waiting for death, I seem to have an inexplicable connection with the stars who's offerings I'd eaten.

I saw all those stars coming down as if to cast judgement on me for eating their food and like I have stated before I could no longer feel emotional, thus the thought of revenge was only something we agreed on because that was the only thing we could do possibly, at least before death

The next moment, the stars were on us bringing with it an apocalyptic catastrophe as we all went dead with the world that I never got to know so much of.
