DANIEL POV
We got back home and alighted from the company's car. The driver took off his cap and put it back on as a form of respect, and drove off. We made our way into the compound, with Rose in front of me. The security guards greeted us, but we responded reluctantly. To be quite honest, I don't really know what they are doing.
I was robbed some days ago, and the security guards were more concerned about me wasting time outside than helping me catch the thieves. They are just collecting salary for being lazy.
I walked into the house just after Rose, and the witch that nearly got me sacked today had the guts to start humming a song.
"Would you keep quiet!" I yelled at her. She shouldn't get on my nerves this evening.
"Daniel, Daniel, Daniel, how many times did I call you?" Rose asked, turning to face me.
"Just shut up! What was that stunt you pulled this morning?" I asked, slowly walking towards her.
"You had better keep your smelling self six feet away from me." She said, crossing her hands on her chest. "I should be asking you that question."
"Rose, you had luck. If the manager had sacked me, I bet you, this house would be too hot for you to live in." I said, my temper rising.
Rose laughed.
"Take a good look at yourself, you could barely make a sound in front of the manager. You are now at home, and suddenly, you remember you are the alpha male." She said in-between laughs.
"At least I wasn't like someone who stayed silent throughout, probably too scared to speak." I replied.
"Nah, it's far from it. There is a saying that the wise ones listen more than they speak. Unlike you who spoke nothing but complete nonsense." She responded, closing the gap between us.
"You know what? When it was raining sense, you instantly raised an umbrella." I said, a small smile playing on my lips.
"You are trying to be funny right?" She said laughing. "If having wealth was a crime, you would be innocent."
"Nah, it doesn't make sense." I responded. "Sometimes it baffles me how you still make this fine hair on an empty skull."
Rose's smile disappeared immediately. I really got her where it hurts.
"I don't really blame you. On the left part of your brain, there's nothing right. On the right part of your brain, there's nothing left. You are just a brainless pig in a suit." She yelled at me.
My smile disappeared as well.
"Oh yeah? You are so lazy that if there were to be a laziest person of the year award, you would take second. Why? Because you would be too lazy to participate." I yelled back.
"You have a big head, yet your brain is no bigger than that of a chicken." She replied.
We kept throwing curses at each other for the next twenty minutes before angrily making our way to our separate rooms, slamming the door after us.
After changing to a house outfit, I took a long rope that I could find in my room, and went to the living room to divide it into two. She would keep a part of the living room and on no condition must she pass into mine.
Rose came out and was surprised to see the demarcation I had made. I can't stand the fact that I am staying with a witch disguised as an editor. She stopped in her tracks, looking at me as though I had gone completely insane.
"What's the meaning of this?" She asked, puzzled by what she was seeing.
"That part of the living room is yours, this part is mine. Stay clear of this part of the living room and on no condition should you cross over to this part of the living room." I responded.
"Now I know that you have gone completely nuts. Like, something is seriously wrong with you. Seek medical help quickly before you fully lose your senses." She said, picking up her phone. "Let me dial 911 while the signs are still manifesting."
"Rose, I am mentally okay. Just do as you are told and we won't have problems." I said in an air of finality.
"What are you going to do?" She said, crossing the rope barrier.
"Get back!" I said, pushing her back.
She tried to pass again, and I pushed her again. She must learn to respect me as the man of this house.
"Have it your way. This part you allocated to me leads to the kitchen, hunger will kill you in this house, watch and see." She said, settling on her side of the living room.
She's right. I didn't really think this through. I was just caught up in the heat of the moment.
"Okay, you can pass but can't stay." I said finally.
"Just be playing. You see the rules you set, we would follow it till the end. You are the alpha male after all, you will eat that title of yours for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Watch and see."
"Rose, don't get me angry this afternoon. I made the rule so I can go back on it." I replied.
"That's a lie, you see this rule of yours, we will see it till the very end." She said, smiling to herself.
I stood up and tried to pass through her side of the living room and she pushed me back. She warned me to never try that again. I guess my plan just backfired at me. But I won't let her win, even if it means we have to battle it out, we will.
"Rose, it seems you are ready to fight. We would battle this thing out if you don't let me pass." I said, my voice low.
"We already know who would win if such a thing happened. So just quietly go back to your seat." She said, not looking at me.
I smiled as a thought came to my head. I quickly picked up the TV remote close to me, and tuned in to one of my favourite shows. Rose turned to look at me, her lips curved into a frown. She asked me to change the movie but I refused, after all, the remote is on my side of the living room.
She tried to stretch into my side of the living room and grab the remote out of my hand but I was quick enough to notice her. I hit her hand with my palm, and she held her hand with the other, rubbing it gently, while staring at me with killer eyes.
After a few minutes, she finally agreed to my new proposal in exchange for me putting a neutral movie, one that the both of us would love.
While in the middle of the movie, our phones beeped, indicating a message had entered. We were surprised because it happened at the same time. I took my phone and opened the message. It was from the manager.
"Good evening brother Daniel. We have been nominated for the best publishing company of the year award, and it's a very huge deal for us. I would love to see you and Rose for a few minutes after work hours. Do have a wonderful evening.
Best regards,
Manager."
The message was clear and concise. Our company has just been nominated for a best publishing company of the year award. I'm quite surprised that an award like that even exists. What wouldn't one see in Benegota? Very soon, there would be a best editor of the year award, of which if there is, I would win it effortlessly.
Rose is a walkover. That girl doesn't have even as much as a little sense. Just a senseless pig on wigs. I guess I will have to prepare myself for a meeting with the manager.
I know what to do. I'd do my research and impress the manager with my knowledge. But why does he want to see me and Rose? Why not someone else?
Hmm…hope it isn't what I am thinking.
TBC.
