Jeremy stepped into the building and Lora's head shot up thinking the men had retured and she was relieved to see Jeremy walk in, with two coats folded over his arm, which meant he had anticipated the cold and the length of the wait both, which was why Val kept him.
He handed Val his coat without ceremony. The other one he moved toward Lora, settling it around her shoulders with the careful neutrality of a man performing a practical task. Val watched it happen and said nothing.
They got into the car that was just outside the building. The city moved past the windows in its grey morning colours, the streets thinning as they pushed toward the outer roads.
"Find out whose men those were," Val said.
Jeremy nodded, eyes on the road.
