Chapter 3 - The System

" A System"

"..."

'...huh?'

A system?

Is that even possible?

In this world, does everyone have a system?

That can't be, she said, it's a gift. Probably for me alone?

'Forget that, how do I even open it?'

'System open'

"..."

'Start System'

"..."

'Start AI'

"..."

'...Does it even have AI? Is it that kind of a System?'

'Do I need to speak it out? Let me try that.'

"Ba… ba…"

"What is it, my sweet child?... Do you want to say something to mamma~? "

He was shocked...

The only thing that came from his mouth was baby sounds...

'...of course I am a freaking child...

My body is not used to speaking...

Also it was close, it would have been freaking weird if a child started talking suddenly.

I should stop doing something that a baby is not supposed to do.

I don't want to get them suspicious.'

Unlike the other systems that he is familiar with in his previous life with manga, novels, and anime, it didn't even output a single notification, not even once...

 That got him thinking

'It may not be that kind of system...

Maybe in this world, a system is nothing that a user cannot feel or do...

But it will only kick in when I am in danger?'

While he was thinking about the system,

His mother and maid were discussing future actions and some general rules.

While the system is important, I should be listening to the conversation that those two are having right now.

After all, it's about his life from now on.

"Lyra....

When you reach there, you should get a house around a good, safe village or city.

I think I have given all that you need for the several years like wealth and resources."

"Yes... Your Majesty"

"Good...

The planet that you will be teleported to will be 'Velmora',

And it is a planet located in 'The Caelorian Cluster' "

"Majesty, that is?"

"Yes, I know...

It's not in my jurisdiction;

I cannot send him somewhere where they can guess and find him.

Also, it's not that far from ours.

While they were discussing Evan's future, someone was still trying to activate the system.

Right now, none of that should matter to me.

'Open sesame... hmm...That's not going to work.'

'System, Open status...'

"..."

'System interface, activate...'

"..."

'... Forget it, I don't want that freaking system.'

Seeing her son in distress, she looked at me, noticing something was wrong.

"Evan~ my boy, something troubling you?"

She was confused.

The baby should be crying, right? Why does he not cry...

As far as she remembers, the only time she saw him cry was when he was first born.

Not even for milk.

But the only thing on my mind right now is:

'My new mother...

I know you love me, but don't give me false hope... '

the system that cannot even be used'...

what a joke.'

"Forget it."

"Lyra...

Here is my son..

My hope...

My everything.

Take care"

Her eyes started to tremble again.

A woman becoming a mother is the biggest feeling in her life.

Especially if that was what she was expecting for those years...

 Thousands of years.

Just to lose him.

Making this decision took everything out of her.

She cannot be selfish right now.

If she did, she would lose him. She cannot protect him right now.

That cannot happen.

"Yes... Your Majesty."

Lyra also became emotional.

She hasn't known her majesty for too long.

But she was sure about one thing...

Her majesty had been trying to get herself pregnant for thousands of years now.

She wanted her legacy to carry on...

Forget the legacy...

She wanted to call someone her own.

...born without a father and a sick mother.

She spent her entire life struggling to live, to become strong enough to protect the only family she ever had.

But at last.

When she became someone strong enough to protect her mother,

Fate made that too impossible for her.

Her mother took the final breath when she ascended to immortality...

To protect one thing she had, she did everything, but none helped.

Nothing to do...

No one to care about...

She did the only thing she knew how to do, 'getting stronger.'

She did everything she could do, killed, conquered, and gave freedom to slaves.

She did it all.

From such action, which gained her loyalties and enemies.

One of those loyal followers was me, a daughter of a slave prostitute, Lyra.

But those same actions also created enemies.

Enemies powerful enough to force her into this desperate decision.

To even send her child to a new world to fend for himself.

Such is the irony of her life.

"Lyra, what is it?"

Her Majesty asked.

"N-Nothing,

 Your Majesty...

It's just that you are losing so much, a-and you only did right things in your life."

Elara smiled.

"Who told you that, silly girl.

I have done several despicable acts throughout my life.

I killed so many people."

The tears finally flowed from Lyra's eyes.

"B-But you only did this to protect the people who need protection...

You never did anything to poor, innocent people...

You only saved them.

Like you did to my late mother."

Elara's smile widened, and she used her fingers to brush Lyra's tears away.

"Silly child...

You are worrying for nothing.

It's not like I am going to die...

I am just entering Seclusion...

As soon as I recover enough divine essence, I will come to pick both of you up.

I am not leaving anyone.

Especially my only child.

Wait for my return, Lyra.

And take care of my son."

Lyra Valen bowed with all the emotion she could muster.

"Take him, be ready for the teleportation."

Lyra took Evan out of Elara's hands and waited for her majesty to create a portal for them to pass through.

To a new world, a new beginning, not only for Evan but also for Lyra.

This is the first step to something new,

something new with her prince...

Something profound.

Meanwhile, the prince in question was awestruck...

To see magic for the first time, All logic vanished from Evan's mind.

In front of him was a golden portal... Big enough for three people, the edges were flickering like glitching system graphics.

From that, he understood after seeing this.

His mother, Elara, is giving her everything to send him far from her...

He understood the extent of her limitations after losing her divine essence.

Elara kissed Evan's cheeks for the last time.

With tear-filled eyes, she, with all the emotions she could muster, smiled and said one last line.

"G-Go, my child. Be safe...

Till your mother can be with you again.

 Goodbye!"

...

For the first time since his reincarnation, emotions surged within him.

Tears welled up in his eyes.

In that moment, he understood…

He was no longer the man from Earth.

He was Evan.

Evan Veyndral—the son of Elara Veyndral, sovereign of the Celestial Dominions.

The past was gone.

This was his life now.

And this time…

He would not fail.

He would grow stronger.

Strong enough to ensure that the woman before him would never have to cry like this again.

No matter what it took.

And then—

"Your majesty, let's meet soon!"

Elara smiled.

"Yes, Lyra, go now."

Lyra walked into the portal. Everything was white for a few seconds, and everything felt blurry.

Suddenly, he saw some details outside the gate.

Lyra stepped out of the portal.

Fresh air hit Evan's face.

A massive city stood in the distance.

Stone towers.

Curved rooftops.

The architecture resembles Roman architecture...

But some Eastern touch to it.

Strange banners fluttering in the wind.

This was not Earth.

This was my new world.

'So this is it, my new home.'

Lyra looked at the surroundings and looked back at me and said.

"My prince, it's time to find a dwelling for us. Shall we?"

She smiled at him and started walking.

Her smile was radiant, even though she hid countless emotions beneath it.

It would melt anyone's heart.

But Evan is not in the mood for any of that.

Why?

!~Ding~!
