Penny's POV
By mid-afternoon, I was still staring at Roamer's last message. Those words had been spinning in my mind all day. 'A good conversation... that's far rarer.' The phrase had an elegance that made my chest flutter every time I read it.
I must have typed and deleted a dozen responses before finally settling on something that felt right: [I loved the Fletcher Burr reference. And I agree, good conversations are rarer than casual dates. How about this: we each get several questions, and if we still like each other at the end, we schedule a date. Do you accept the challenge?]
I sent it before I could second-guess myself. Then spent the rest of the afternoon pretending to work while checking my phone constantly like a teenager.
His response arrived later that evening: [Brilliant idea. Multiple questions is enough to learn the essentials without ruining the mystery. May I start?]
