The late afternoon shadows stretched across my desk, and the office felt suffocatingly quiet. Everyone had that pre-weekend tension running through their veins, especially with the Sterling international partners event looming over us. The pressure to make a flawless impression seemed to seep through the building's walls, making even the most confident employees second-guess themselves.
I found myself mindlessly scrolling through my phone again. Ever since I'd deleted that dating app, my fingers had developed this irritating muscle memory of refreshing social media feeds, searching for something that would never appear. My brain kept hunting for notifications that would never come.
