Dr. Daugherty knocked on our door within minutes, carrying his leather medical bag with the kind of urgency that made my chest tighten. Arthur remained motionless on the couch, his breathing shallow but thankfully steady compared to those heart-stopping moments when he first collapsed.
Maya pressed closer to my side, her silence speaking volumes as the doctor began his methodical examination. Blood pressure cuff, stethoscope against chest and back, reflexes tested with clinical precision - each movement carried the weight of decades spent treating cardiac patients.
"Transient supraventricular arrhythmia brought on by acute psychological stress," Dr. Daugherty announced, packing away his stethoscope with practiced efficiency. "Considering Arthur's recent cardiac surgery just weeks ago, this type of episode falls within expected parameters when subjected to severe emotional trauma."
