Linda's call arrived on Tuesday morning while I was reviewing quarterly sales figures with Felicity.
"Penelope?" Her tone carried that crisp, professional edge I'd grown accustomed to.
"Mr. Dixon requests your presence at a business dinner this Friday evening. The Gallian investors will be attending, and he feels your expertise regarding the Verdanian market could prove beneficial to their discussions."
My heart lurched violently in my chest.
"Absolutely." I kept my voice steady and businesslike. "What time should I be there?"
"Eight o'clock at Small Bernardin. I'll forward the complete details via email shortly. Thank you."
The moment I ended the call, Felicity's penetrating stare found mine, accompanied by that all-too-familiar knowing expression.
"Business dinner?" Her question dripped with skepticism that suggested she saw right through the professional facade.
"It's legitimate business, Felicity. Gallian investors need briefing."
