Chapter 26 - chapter 26: The Alpha’s Claim.

Kaiden didn't advance physically, but his presence pushed like a storm across the valley. Every wolf, every breath I took, seemed influenced by him. Possession radiated in waves, and for the first time, I felt a pull toward him—not fear, not submission, but… recognition.

"You could be mine," he said, voice smooth, dangerous. "All you have to do is submit."

I felt the mark flare at his words. Submission. Control. A choice I would never make—not now. "I am not yours," I said firmly.

Lucien stepped closer, protective. "Ignore him. Focus on survival and control. Let power define you, not desire."

Kaiden's wolf growled low, a warning to Lucien as much as to me. "Do you really think you can survive the next wave alone?"

"I don't need survival," I snapped, letting the mark flare white-hot, energy spreading across the valley. Wolves yelped, staggered, retreating. I felt exhilaration, control, and fear mingling. This was power, and it was mine to wield.

Kaiden's eyes narrowed, wolf tense beneath his skin. "Impressive," he admitted, voice low. "But raw power is nothing without strategy. You're strong—but I could break you if I chose."

I stared back, pulse racing, mark flaring. "Then try."

A tense silence fell across the valley. The rogue wolves hesitated, unsure, sensing the Alpha tension between Kaiden and me. The air crackled with energy—not just my mark, but the clash of two powerful forces, one observing, one defending.

Kaiden stepped back slightly, studying me. "You've changed," he admitted quietly. "The Omega I rejected… she's no longer weak. Dangerous. Free. Unpredictable."

I swallowed, realizing the truth: he wasn't angry. Not anymore. He was calculating, intrigued, and perhaps… afraid.

The distant horizon rippled with movement—other packs drawn by the mark. Lucien glanced at me. "They'll be here soon. You need to master this power before it's too late."

I nodded, letting the pulse of the mark settle, white-hot energy dimming to a steady glow. Kaiden watched, wolf calm but alert, tension lingering like a storm on the horizon.

"I'm not yours," I whispered again. Not to him, not to the world. To myself.

Kaiden's eyes flickered with something I couldn't name. Possession? Respect? Perhaps both. "We'll see," he said finally, stepping back into the shadows, leaving only a promise and a warning.
