The forest was alive with tension, every rustle of echoing like a warning. My mark throbbed against my skin, glowing faintly, sensing the approach of something far more dangerous than any rogue wolf we'd faced.
Kaiden's presence was a steady anchor beside me, but even he didn't move immediately. His gray eyes scanned the fog, sharp and calculating. "They're close," he muttered. "Closer than we expected."
Lucien's lips pressed into a thin line. "The enemy doesn't make mistakes. If they've come this far, they know your abilities. And they've learned from the last encounter."
I swallowed hard. "Then what do we do?" My voice barely carried over the whispering fog.
Kaiden's gaze softened, just enough to make my chest flutter and my heart thump painfully. "We fight smart. Together."
A shadow detached itself from the mist—a figure taller than any wolf I had seen, moving with predatory grace. Its eyes glowed faintly red, intelligent and cruel. Every instinct in my body screamed danger, but I refused to retreat.
Lucien muttered a warning, energy flaring around his hands. "This one… isn't ordinary. They're feeding off your power."
The figure stopped a few meters away, lips curling into a smile. "So… the little Luna shows herself." Its voice was smooth, silk over steel. "And with such… companions."
Kaiden's eyes narrowed. "Reveal yourself. Now."
The shadow chuckled softly. "Why spoil the fun?"
My mark flared violently, arcs of white light snapping outward. "Enough games!" I shouted, my voice carrying authority I didn't even know I had. Energy radiated from me, intertwining with Kaiden's aura in a surge that sent a shiver through the fog.
The figure's smile faltered. "Interesting," it whispered. "They've awakened… more than I expected."
Lucien stepped forward, warding spells forming in the air. "If you take one step closer, you'll regret it."
The predator tilted its head, calculating. "I don't think you understand, little Luna. I'm not here to negotiate. I'm here to take what's mine… and you've already drawn attention to yourself. That mark on your neck… it's more than power—it's a beacon."
Kaiden's hand brushed mine briefly, sharp and commanding. "Stay behind me," he ordered, though the tension between us was electric, our proximity fueling something unspoken and dangerous.
I met his gaze, defiance blazing. "I'm not hiding. I'm not running. Not anymore."
The shadow's eyes glowed brighter, and suddenly, the fog shifted, forming shapes that moved in perfect synchronization. Wolves—dozens of them—emerged from the mist, silent and deadly. They circled us, cutting off every escape route.
Lucien's voice was sharp. "Brace yourselves. This is going to get messy."
Kaiden's energy surged, protective and fierce, intertwining with mine as we faced the encroaching predators. My heart pounded in my chest, not just from fear, but from the thrill of power, of connection, of challenge.
The first strike came suddenly—swift, precise, and lethal.
And the hunt had officially begun.
