A small, humorless smile touched Lucas's lips, but his eyes remained deadly. He took a single, deliberate step toward her, closing the small gap between them.
Evie didn't flinch, even with his shadow looming over her. She lifted her chin, meeting his gaze with the pure, defiant fire he obviously hated.
"You really think you can beat me? Hilarious!" His words were followed by a mocking laugh.
Evie stared at him as he had just escaped from a mental asylum. Or perhaps he had, because the way he was acting right now was far from normal. Even people around were staring at him in shock.
