Chapter 19 - Chapter 19: PREPARATION TO NEO BANDUNG

Jakarta: The New Killing Fields

The night air in Jakarta felt different now. It was as if the heavy, suffocating weight of the oxygen had evaporated, replaced by the sharp, crystalline sting of pure magical energy. The wind whistled through cracked facades, carrying the scent of concrete dust and rusted iron, mingled with the faint, copper tang of battle that still clung to their cloaks. Along Sudirman Avenue, the streetlights began to flicker on one by one—though most stuttered unsteadily, as if the ancient machinery were fighting a losing battle against death.

In the distance, the silhouette of the Mandiri Tower stood rigid, dark and defiant under a sky whose crimson hue was slowly bleeding out. Arlan walked down the split asphalt, flanked by Bara—who still shouldered his massive greatsword—and Maya, who moved with a light but wary grace.

The struggle against the Broodmother had ended hours ago, leaving behind that satisfying ache of exhaustion in their muscles. But to the World System, that victory was merely a catalyst for a much vaster upheaval. In the void before Arlan's eyes, the translucent system window manifested once more, refracting a cold blue light.

[City System Updated: Jakarta Zone]

[Player Level 30+ Now Allowed]

However, one particular line caught Arlan's eye. A warning rendered in a cautionary amber, suggesting this "Safe Zone" was no longer as secure as they had imagined.

[World Scaling Active: Monster Level Updated]

Arlan swiped the screen away, clearing his field of vision. "So, everything's leveling up now," he said flatly. His voice sounded heavy in the midnight silence.

Bara stretched his stiff shoulders, his joints popping like gunfire. A thin smirk cut through the dust on his face. "Figures. The System isn't about to let us kick back after a raid like that. The city is adjusting to our presence."

Maya nodded slowly, her fingers idly twirling the embers of blue energy still glowing at her fingertips. "It has to. If the city accepts high-level players, the surrounding ecosystem must evolve to match. Balance is the System's highest priority." She scanned the empty street ahead, her sharp eyes catching a flicker of movement in the skyscraper shadows.

Arlan came to a sudden halt. His hand instinctively dropped to the hilt of his blade. In a dark corner, right behind the rusted skeleton of an abandoned TransJakarta bus, something was shifting. The sound of sharp claws scraping against asphalt was unmistakable, followed by a low growl that vibrated through the air.

Seconds later, the predator emerged. It resembled a wolf, but nearly twice the size of any natural beast. Its fur was pitch-black, like a living shadow, and its eyes burned like rubies under the dim streetlights.

The system window identified the hunter:

[Shadow Fang Wolf – Level 31]

Bara let out a short laugh. Instead of fear, he looked hungry for the fight. "Level thirty-one right in the middle of the highway? Not bad. Jakarta's definitely moved up in the world."

The monster didn't wait. With powerful haunches, it lunged. But Bara was faster. With one heavy, precise swing, his greatsword caught the wolf mid-air, slamming it into the asphalt with a bone-crunching thud.

Arlan stepped forward without hesitation. His blade hummed with a faint white mana glow before he delivered a clean strike to the throat of the beast as it tried to scramble up. One stroke. The creature collapsed instantly, dissolving into a million light particles that scattered into the night.

[EXP Gained]

Maya didn't lower her guard. She peered into a narrow alleyway to their left. "Not just one, Arlan. They hunt in packs."

One by one, pairs of red eyes began to dot the darkness of alleys, derelict buildings, and rubble. Growls answered growls, creating a symphony of death in the heart of the newly awakened city. Arlan took a short breath, sharpening his focus. "Good. The more that come, the faster we can prepare."

Hours later, Jakarta no longer felt like a silent tomb. The city had transformed into a dynamic killing field. Monsters began spawning across various districts as if the System had just opened the floodgates for deadlier species. Some were evolved variants of old foes, but many were entirely new species previously only whispered about in the Outlands.

In the middle of an intersection littered with fading monster husks, Bara dropped the carcass of a massive creature. It looked like a wild boar, but with skin plated in natural iron and tusks the length of a man's arm.

[Ironhide Boar – Level 34]

"City monsters are a different breed now. Feels like we're in a dungeon without a roof," Bara said, wiping sweat and blood from his brow.

Arlan cleaned his blade with a tattered cloth. "Because the players coming here won't be amateurs anymore. The Eclipse Guild is bound to crawl back—trash like them only want resources; they don't care what state the world is in. The System wants us to fight for every inch of this soil."

In the distance, Arlan could see flashes of magic and hear the rhythmic clatter of steel. Groups of other players—those previously capped by the level limit or fresh arrivals from the outer zones—were starting to engage in combat across the districts. The update had turned Jakarta into a magnet for level-grinders.

But Arlan was indifferent to the competition. His focus was locked on the small window in his peripheral vision.

[Level Up: Arlan – Level 33]

Bara laughed heartily as he saw the level-up aura radiate from Arlan. "Finally! We're starting to bridge the gap."

Maya leaned against a cracked wall, catching her breath. "The monsters here are good for a short-term grind. But if our target is to break past the limits..."

Arlan looked down the long highway stretching west toward the dark horizon. "It's not enough. If we want to leave Jakarta for the wider zones, thirty-three is just a starting number."

Maya followed his line of thought. "Bandung."

Arlan didn't offer a verbal reply, but the intensity in his gaze was enough. To him, Jakarta was now just a stepping stone. Something far greater was waiting in the City of Flowers.

The Following Day

The morning sun hit Jakarta with a pale light, piercing through the smog and magical residue. Arlan stood atop an office building, looking toward the mountain ranges on the western horizon. Beyond them lay the city that had become a legend among high-level players: Bandung—the hub of a new civilization, far more advanced, yet infinitely more lethal.

Bara walked up to him, tossing a bottle of cold water he'd grabbed from the base. "Done counting?"

Arlan caught the bottle with one hand and nodded. "The average monster on the outskirts is between level thirty and thirty-five. That means the road out will be crawling with predators on our level."

Maya, who was checking her mana potion stock behind them, added, "If we hunt aggressively for the next few days, we can squeeze out a few more levels before we actually move."

Bara unscrewed his bottle and gulped down half of it. "What's the target before we hit the Bandung border?"

Arlan answered without a moment's doubt, his voice cold as ice. "Forty."

Bara nearly choked. He shot Arlan a look of pure disbelief. "Forty? Are you insane? That means slaughtering half the monster population in this city in record time!"

Arlan wasn't joking. His gaze remained fixed on the west. "If Bandung is truly the zone for elites, then showing up at level thirty is a suicide note. We need to be apex predators before we run into anything bigger."

Maya looked at the sky as it shifted to a clear blue. "The monsters there might not rely on animal instinct anymore. They might be intelligent. Arlan's right—we can't show up as prey."

Bara went quiet for a beat, then a wild grin spread across his face. He raised his greatsword toward the sun. "Fine. If that's the play, let's make Jakarta our personal slaughterhouse."

Arlan turned, heading for the emergency stairs. Below, the growls of monsters rose again, beckoning them back into the dance of blood. To many, Jakarta was a place to return home. But for Arlan, this city was where his chaos began—starting from the glitch on his PC, his mother becoming an NPC, and the "distractions" that followed. For now, he felt a sliver of relief; one by one, he was settling the scores.

Their true journey hadn't even started yet. All of this was merely the overture to the symphony of destruction they would carry west. Toward a city that would change their fates forever.

After a period of relentless grinding, his level climbed steadily from 32 to 35. Having entered his second job class, his stat points no longer increased by 3, but by 4 per level. Arlan funneled his points into Agility and Strength, the hallmarks of a Sword Dancer.
