Atheline disappeared before the attack got to him. The place he'd occupied became a forest of frozen spikes.
He reappeared above the creature, three arrows descending.
The wolf created another barrier. He changed their trajectory using Wind before the impact; two curved around while one went beneath.
The beast jumped backward.
Water gathered around Atheline's hand. He redirected melting snow from the mountainside, transforming it into several streams that wrapped around the wolf's legs.
The creature froze them.
His eyes widened slightly as the wolf shattered the restraints, then attacked. The battle lasted nearly two hours although he had overwhelming advantage.
Killing it wasn't why he'd remained in the Forbidden Forest.
So he suppressed himself and watched the way it fought. Beast tend to have a more natural and instinctual use of their powers than most.
