Marc Spector (Moon Knight) (MCU)

My eyes stopped at the last card.

Moon Knight.

The Champion of Khonshu.

"…Now this is good."

A smile slowly formed on my face, a bit wider this time. He's one of my favourite characters.

Even if this is the MCU version, it's still more than enough for the early stage. Enhanced physical abilities, combat skills, and more importantly, regeneration, that alone makes him insanely valuable.

But…

A small frown formed as another thought crept in.

What happens if I absorb him?

His powers come from Khonshu, an Egyptian god from Marvel. But I'm not in Marvel, I'm in DC.

So what does that mean for me? Will absorbing him create some kind of connection to the Egyptian gods of this world?

Or…

Will the system treat it differently?

There are a few possibilities.

Either the connection gets redirected to a DC version of Khonshu…

Or the power works independently, without any external dependency…

"…Well, I'll find out after using it."

No point guessing too much right now.

My gaze shifted to the next character card.

Soldier Boy. This one too is from live action.

"…Hmm."

Pre-experiment version. So no energy blast from him. Still not bad… just not what I was hoping for.

I was kinda hoping for Homelander… if I had gotten him, I could've gone straight to Superman and said I'm his younger brother, no, older actually, the one who didn't make the cut because I was too weak, so they got rid of me and made you instead.

I'll definitely try something like that in the future. For now, I focused on the package card. Apparently, it contains random things related to the character, and this one wasn't bad at all. Not only did it include the Mr. President template, but also his stand and clothes. I have to say my luck was really good today since I got two template who had abilities releted to space.

As I looked through the cards again, I started noticing a few patterns. Every character card I got… was human. Or at least originally human. Was that because I'm human? Maybe the system uses that as a default filter when selecting characters. Then there was the number too. Three character cards in each pull.

Coincidence… or limit?

"…Too many questions." I exhaled quietly. There was still a lot I didn't understand about this system, but that wasn't something I could figure out in one day. It would take time.

My gaze shifted back to the system, particularly at assimilation slots. One is already filled with punisher.

"So… second slot."

I wanted something super this time. Owlman and Robin were out for now. Both were strong, but still has limits unlike Batman. Right now, I needed something more.

Since I was planning to stay low and avoid attention, Sideways felt like the best choice. His ability to open rifts in space wasn't just useful, it was perfect for mobility.

But Mr President isn't bad either. Having an invisible bodyguard… yeah, that's definitely useful. Though I think people who can see souls or spiritual entities might be able to notice it, well it should be rare. Then again… this is DC. There are way too many weird abilities out there, so nothing can be said with 100% certainty.

I thought about it for a moment, weighing it against the others.

Moon Knight and Soldier Boy…

Both of them are straightforward fighters. Strong, durable, reliable but still direct. And right now, jumping into fights isn't exactly part of my plan so they both are out of options too.

Since I already have a template from Marvel in one slot, it only makes sense to balance it with something from DC in the other.

Yeah… that sounds about right. I placed Sideways into the second slot and shifted my attention to the only pure superpower I'd gotten, one that wasn't tied to any template.

Worm.

One of my favourite worlds, mainly because of how creative and varied the powers are.

So this is a shard ability… not the shard or multi-shard combination, just a single, defined power.

"Let's see…" I focused on the card description. Thankfully, this system does provide explanations, though it's pretty inconsistent. Sometimes it's detailed, sometimes it's useless, like the Moon Knight one that just said 'Fist of Khonshu' and called it a day. I just hoped this one would be clearer. And it was.

[Licit could create forcefields in geometric shapes, remaining aware of them to an almost clairvoyant level. He could individually choose what could pass through his forcefields, he can walk through his own forcefields easily. Sufficiently powerful hits could shatter the fields. The range within which he can create forcefields is listed as either line-of-sight or twenty feet.]

"…Not bad."

No this is actually really good. Without wasting any more time, I decided to absorb it. The card vanished. And in the next moment…I felt it.

I know it was the ability the forcefield creation I just got.

Taking a slow breath, I focused on my palm.

And the next second a small rectangle appeared above it. Good. I shifted my focus slightly, experimenting. Square. Triangle. Hexagon. Different shapes formed one after another, each appearing almost effortlessly.

I'll test bigger forcefields and their durability later. For now, I decided to check some of the items I got.

"Let's start with the SCP one…"

I took out the pizza box. At first, it was empty. Then suddenly I felt its weight increase.

"…Oh?"

I raised an eyebrow and slowly opened it. Inside was a pepperoni pizza.

I stared at it for a second, a bit cautious. Still, curiosity won. I picked up a slice and took a bite.

"…Damn."

That's really good.

Like, really good.

I took another bite without thinking, my eyes already drifting back to the system inventory as I tried to decide what to check next.

"Let's see how good writer Jiraya really was…"

I pulled out Icha Icha Paradise in my left hand and started reading while eating the pizza.

*****Some time later******

I closed the book with a small sigh. Out of all the Sannin, he was still my least favourite… but I had to admit, Jiraya really was a man of culture. Shaking my head lightly, I set the book aside and decided it was time to do some experiments.

My gaze moved to the rings from DnD in the inventory, and I took one out. A golden ring appeared in my palm, with a purple stone embedded at the top. The design on it looked oddly like a brain. It was a bit strange, but I still slipped it onto my finger. It fit perfectly. That made me pause for a moment. Was it customized for me?

Pushing that thought aside, I decided to test things out. I picked up the empty pizza box again and opened it. Just like before, there was a pizza inside, this time a margarita. So it still responded to my thoughts. I frowned slightly while thinking about it. Either the level of this SCP item was higher than what the ring could block, or maybe it's because the ring only protected against mental magical attacks. Either way, it wasn't absolute.

I decided it was probably just another function of the item. Focusing on the ring, I willed it to turn invisible, and it vanished from my sight instantly. A second thought brought it back just as easily. I watched it for a moment before making it invisible again. It would stay like that unless I chose otherwise… or until I removed it. Or died.

That last part made me pause. It wasn't the best function. It was what happened after death.

If I died while wearing the ring, my soul would enter it… unless it already housed another soul. From there, I could either remain inside or move on to the afterlife. And as long as I stayed in the ring, I could communicate telepathically with whoever wore it.

"…That's actually insane."

A faint frown formed as I thought it through. The description said the wearer couldn't block that communication. Though… in a world like this, I doubt that's absolute. Someone strong enough, or with the right kind of abilities, could probably resist it.

I let out a slow breath and glanced at the rest of the cards.

"…I'll check those later."

Right now, my mind was getting a bit tired. I needed rest. And after that… I still had to clean this entire house.

"Yeah… definitely need energy for that."

With that thought, I stood up and stretched slightly before heading back toward the bed.

Good Night Gotham.
