The gunshot shattered the darkness.
Camille screamed.
"Dante!"
She felt his arms around her before she could even think.
He pulled her down, covering her body with his.
Another shot cracked through the room.
Glass exploded somewhere behind them.
People screamed.
Chairs scraped violently across the floor.
For a few seconds, everything became noise.
Then
silence.
Dante lifted his head slightly.
"Camille."
"I'm here."
"Are you hurt?"
"No."
He immediately checked her anyway, running his hands over her arms, shoulders, and face.
"You're sure?"
"I'm fine."
His jaw tightened.
Across the room, Adrian had already pulled Victor and Elena behind the bar.
Margot was crouched beside the table, completely pale.
The emergency lights flickered on.
Dante looked toward the shattered window.
Nothing.
The black car was gone.
"Nobody move," he said.
His voice was calm.
Too calm.
Camille knew that voice.
