Chapter 30 - Chapter 30: The Beginning of the Sewer Exploration

"Do you plan on going down?"

Morgott suddenly turned his head toward Mohg and asked.

"Why do you ask?"

Mohg looked at Morgott with a hint of confusion. In his eyes, Morgott had always been the cautious one; unless forced by absolute necessity, his brother likely wouldn't choose to descend into those dangerous lower reaches.

"Because based on what I know of you," Morgott glanced at Mohg and then lowered his gaze to the dagger in his hand, "now that you have the protection of Big Brother's power, you surely won't be able to restrain yourself."

Hearing this, Mohg shrugged.

"Regrettably, you guessed wrong this time. I plan to finish digesting the power within my body before going down. At the very least, I want to wait until I can trade a few blows with an ordinary Omen."

"This 'trading a few blows' of yours... to what extent are we talking?"

"Well, being able to block two of his attacks."

Mohg looked at Morgott with a completely serious expression. However, the content of his words made Morgott's face darken.

No matter how you looked at it, that sounded like a suicidal endeavor.

"Alright, I'm joking. At the very least, I won't go down until I have a certain level of self-preservation capability. Based on our current absorption speed, it should be about... hm, another month should be enough."

Morgott lowered his head slightly in thought and realized that was indeed about right. In a month's time, as long as they didn't provoke the creatures at the top of the food chain within the sewers, they should be fine.

The blessing of the Crucible of primordial life, combined with the bloodline of the Golden Lineage, the empowerment left behind by Godwyn, and even the unformed Great Rune—their growth speed far outstripped that of ordinary people.

While Mohg and Morgott were discussing the areas they intended to explore and what to eat for dinner, the army led by Godfrey had already passed through the routes previously carved out by the Royal Capital and entered the vast, boundless snows.

Fortunately, they had the Tree Sentinels out front and the incantations of the Church of the Erdtree to light the way; otherwise, the visibility here would have been terrifyingly low.

However, there was a major downside. The conspicuous power of the Golden Incantations and the abrupt flash of gold against the stark white plains would expose their position.

Facing a situation where they were in the light and the enemy was in the dark—especially on the enemy's home turf—they had to be extremely cautious. Consequently, a decrease in their marching speed was inevitable.

I hope this campaign can end as quickly as possible...

Godfrey squinted his eyes against the fierce wind and snow ahead, thinking silently to himself. After all, the longer things dragged on, the more variables would arise, and those who had already been conquered would become increasingly restless.

...

In the blink of an eye, a month passed by. The statures of Mohg and Morgott had grown another size larger.

Mohg, in particular, had not only grown bulkier, but the horns on his head had lengthened considerably, and his skin now shimmered with textures resembling scales.

The changes to Morgott's physical body were not nearly as dramatic. Conversely, Morgott possessed an extraordinary talent and perception regarding faith in the Erdtree's incantations.

By now, he was already able to rely on that power to manifest his own weapons, though he couldn't maintain them for very long yet.

Mohg felt that these types of weapons would be exceptionally effective for beating down wraiths and Those Who Live in Death...

They were essentially the ultimate specialized weapons against the undead.

"Well? Are we considered prepared this time?"

Mohg glanced at Morgott and spoke.

Morgott didn't say a word, merely nodding silently.

The two of them cast a glance at the surrounding Omen before walking toward the place they had originally arrived from.

Before long, they reached the relatively large space they had encountered before. This time, Mohg finally had the opportunity to carefully observe the conditions here.

While it was very similar to the place in his memory, there were still quite a few differences.

Specifically, there was a massive opening at the very bottom. Thick iron bars stood there to block relatively large objects while continuously funneling the sewage from the surroundings into the deeper levels of the sewers.

Moreover, there appeared to be some light sources over there, illuminating the interior.

"Which pipe did we crawl up from before?"

Morgott turned to Mohg and asked.

Hearing this, Mohg scanned the surroundings and spotted a hole with a breach directly above it. Judging by the size, it seemed to be the place they had emerged from.

"It should be that one. Let's head over."

"Mm."

Morgott nodded. Going down from a familiar place would prevent them from getting too lost. Although nearly four months had passed, they could still find traces of the path from the depths of their memories.

The two of them then followed the path all the way to the side of that pipe.

"Straight down?"

Morgott looked at Mohg and asked.

Mohg didn't answer immediately. Instead, he looked around and fixed his eyes on a small lantern by the roadside.

He immediately scurried over, plucked the small lantern straight from the ground, and tucked it into his arms.

"Okay, now there's no problem."

Seeing this, Morgott nodded, then leaped down, entering the pipe.

"I remember we seemed to have run all the way from that direction."

Morgott squinted his eyes as he recalled.

Mohg watched for a moment and indicated he understood. He used the sharp claws on his fingertips to leave a mark on a nearby pipe before walking in the direction Morgott pointed.

If possible, he really wanted to see that giant rat again. He was a very sentimental person, after all, and it had been over four months since he'd seen the fellow.

As the saying goes, a single day apart feels like three autumns. It felt like an eternity had passed. Combined with the fact that he was such a "sentimental" person, he hoped he could have a good chat with the creature this time to catch up on old times.

"I didn't expect that after only such a short time, this iron gate doesn't feel as big as it used to."

Standing once again before the iron gate that had helped them block the giant rat, Mohg reached out to touch it and let out a sigh of emotion.

"Our growth speed is very fast. When we were here last time, we seemed to only be... half the height of the gate?"

Morgott rested his chin in his hand and reminisced.

"Maybe... I was too busy running for my life back then to notice."

Mohg smacked his lips, then passed through the iron gate to the other side.

The moment they cleared the gate, the two of them heard an incredibly familiar sound coming from not far away.

Squeak, squeak!

In an instant, a red glint flickered in both of their eyes.

It was time for vengeance!
