Chapter 69 - Chapter 69: Liana’s Decision (A Day of Laughing at My Own Stupidity)

"This thing should be quite suitable for you..."

Mohg pulled a Sacred Seal from Pohl's body and handed it to Morgott.

Morgott took the seal, turning it over in his hands. He could feel a significant amount of faith dwelling within it; for an ordinary person, it would be an excellent medium for casting.

But for him... it was somewhat redundant. His own body was, in a sense, the ultimate medium for channeling the Erdtree's incantations. This seal would only offer a marginal increase in power.

Still, it was better than nothing.

"Ah, I suppose its use for you is limited," Mohg noted, seeing Morgott's neutral expression. He turned back to the bodies and continued his scavenging.

"Wait, what's this...?"

Morgott leaned in as Mohg pulled a piece of parchment from Calot's person. It was covered in dense rows of writing.

"It's a record of several combat techniques. This is quite a haul."

"Hmm. We should collect their weapons as well. We might be able to find a way to re-forge them eventually..."

"Are you serious?"

"I have the fire, you have the hammer. Even if we fail, it's no great loss. There's no harm in trying."

Mohg shrugged. As for the 'fire' and the 'hammer'...

The fire, of course, was the Aspects of the Crucible: Breath, and the hammer would be the Golden Great Hammer Morgott could manifest through the power of the Golden Order.

The only real issue was their complete lack of smithing knowledge. They would have to learn through trial and error.

"If you could choose, what kind of weapon would you want?" Mohg asked curiously.

"I don't know. I've never thought about it. Any weapon that can be used for combat is enough," Morgott replied, shaking his head.

"Is that so... and what about armor? We can't go without protection forever, right?"

Mohg nodded and continued his questioning. He had always wondered why these two never wore armor in the original timeline. While the horns made standard sets difficult to wear, it wasn't impossible to craft custom gear.

Was it a matter of conviction? Mohgwyn's self-styled elegance? Or was there another reason for Morgott?

Mohg fell into contemplation.

Regardless of what those two thought in the other timeline, he was determined to get a set of armor to protect his "fragile" body. Even if this body would eventually grow harder than steel, he still suffered from a distinct lack of security!

With that in mind, he began stripping the heavy armor off Calot. It didn't matter if it didn't fit yet; metal was a scarce and vital resource.

Before long, several naked corpses were all that remained on the ground. Morgott's eye twitched at the sight.

"Armor isn't strictly necessary for us, is it? It will only restrict our movement, not to mention how difficult it would be to forge. Besides, our horns are constantly growing."

"We'll just re-forge it once we're fully grown. And don't just stand there watching—help me carry some of this, or I won't be able to see the path ahead."

Mohg brushed off the concerns and signaled Morgott to help. He had to fly back while keeping an eye out for attacks from the "Shrimp Bro" (the Giant Crayfish); he couldn't afford to have his vision blocked by a pile of loot.

"I thought you planned to stay in the catacombs forever."

"I do plan on staying there for a while, but there are things to settle first—like practicing forging. Those aren't things we should be doing in a place where grave robbers might stumble in at any moment."

"That's true..." Morgott nodded, taking a portion of the weapons and clothing from Mohg.

Why strip the clothes too? Because in the sewers, even cloth was a luxury. The two of them were currently wearing nothing but tattered rags—essentially just pieces of cloth wrapped around them to cover the essentials.

"Where's the shrimp that was near us earlier?"

"Probably back in the mud sleeping. Let's move, fast."

Mohg scanned the area, and seeing no sign of the creature, he urged Morgott along.

Soon, Mohg spread his wings again and carried Morgott safely back up to the pipes. As they passed a familiar spot, Mohg reached out and playfully patted the head of an Imp.

The Imp stared at him blankly, its expression seemingly asking if this person was mentally ill.

Once they reached the upper levels, the two finally relaxed. This area was relatively safe; even if grave robbers made it this far, they would have to face a horde of adult Omens. No sane person would take that risk if they had a choice.

Clang!

Dumping the armor and weapons on the ground, Mohg prepared to head out again. He wanted to check on Liana. If necessary, he'd ask Morgott to provide her with more healing. After all... it wasn't his own energy being spent.

Morgott looked at the pile of junk with silent condemnation. Mohg had just walked away, clearly leaving the task of organizing the loot to him! Between the gear and the curious Omen kin gathering around like inquisitive children, Morgott felt a massive headache coming on.

"Ah, Master Mohg, you've returned. You aren't hurt, are you?"

Liana slowly opened her eyes at the sound of approaching footsteps. Seeing Mohg, a look of joy flashed in her eyes, followed quickly by concern.

"Don't worry about me. But you... why do you look even worse?"

Mohg frowned as he examined her. He wasn't a doctor, but he could sense that Liana's life force was even feebler than before. Curiously, the others nearby seemed to be faring much better. Unless...

Unless something had set its sights on her.

"Master Mohg, please don't waste your strength on me anymore... Perhaps I truly have been abandoned by the Erdtree..."

Liana lowered her head, her eyes filled with disappointment and sorrow, though she quickly forced a smile. "Master Mohg, may I ask one favor of you?"

"Speak." Mohg nodded, watching her closely.

"Before I die... could you take me to see the Erdtree one last time?"

Mohg looked upward. If he remembered correctly, there was a manhole cover nearby that offered a view of the outside world.

"I can do that. But after that... would you be willing to try another way?"
