JAY'S POV:
Everyone slowly left the café.
Felix and Ci-N were still arguing about fries.
David followed them outside.
Raefel stopped beside me.
"You okay?" he asked.
"I am fine."
He looked at Keifer for a moment.
Then back at me.
"Be careful. Call me if you need any thing."
I smiled, nodding.
"Always."
He smiled and left.
Now it was just me.
And Keifer. Asshole.
Great.
He sat down across from me like he had all the time in the world.
"You started started a whole team to investigate me," he grinned.
I crossed my arms, glaring.
"You are the main suspect."
He leaned back in chair.
"You really don't give up."
"No."
"Stubborn."
"Shut up."
He chuckled.
"You are funny when you are angry."
"I am not trying to be funny."
"You are succeeding anyway."
I stood up quickly.
"I am leaving."
But as I turned—
My foot caught on the chair leg.
"—AH!"
I lost my balance.
For a second the world tilted.
Then suddenly—
Strong arms caught me.
Keifer.
One arm around my waist.
The other holding my arm.
My face inches from his.
My heart started beating like crazy.
His eyes looked down at me.
Amused.
"You should really watch where you are going," he grinned.
My face felt hot.
"Let go!"
"Relax, sweetheart."
"I am not your sweetheart! And let go!"
He slowly helped me stand up straight.
But his hand stayed on my waist for a second longer than necessary.
My heart betrayed me again.
Then he stepped back.
I cleared my throat.
"That was an accident."
" Tss, of course it was."
"You didn't need to catch me."
He smirked raising an eyebrow.
"So next time I should let you hit the floor?"
I blinked. Right.
"…No."
His grin grew wide. Urgh.
"That's what I thought."
I grabbed my bag angrily.
"Don't think this changes anything!"
"Change what?"
"I still think you killed my sister."
His smirk faded a little.
For a moment he looked serious.
Then he sighed.
"You really don't trust me."
"Why would I?"
He didn't answer.
Instead he walked closer to me.
Then said quietly,
"If I wanted to hurt you Jay, I wouldn't have saved you from the attacker last night."
My chest tightened.
I didn't know what to say.
So I did the only thing I could.
"Asshole!"
And I walked away quickly before I could see his stupid smirk again.
But the whole way home…
My heart wouldn't calm down.
And that annoyed me even more.
