My hands grew colder as the car drove into my grandfather's estate. Throughout the ride, I tried so hard not to make it obvious that I was uncomfortable around him, and each time he tried to speak to me, I responded with short replies that wouldn't drag the conversation any further.
I was not supposed to appear helpless in front of a man who could turn out to be like everyone else, and even though he made a good impression at my funeral after Ariana and Owen killed me, I still didn't trust him. I had no idea what he was capable of doing.
"We have arrived, sir."
The driver's announcement, along with Christian's hand on my shoulder, jolted me out of my thoughts.
"I… uhm…" I cleared my throat as I turned to face him. "Thank you so much for today," I told him.
