Jasmine stepped out cautiously from the police station with Vesper close behind. Every shadow in the street felt heavier than usual. The police had warned her that she could not leave the city, but standing on her own street felt suffocating.
Her friends were waiting for her, looking at her in a strange way. Then Vesper broke the silence by firing a question at Jasmine that she had no answer for.
"How could you do that, William?"
"I didn't do anything, I swear," Jasmine explained.
"Don't be so innocent," Ethan said harshly.
With Ethan, Vesper also made remarks, and others began to assume things about Jasmine. Overwhelmed and scared, she ran towards her house.
She locked the door behind her and ran straight to her room, crying. In her room, she kept explaining her innocence to herself, trying to make sense of what was happening.
Suddenly, the doorbell rang.
She froze. For a moment, she thought her friends had come again to bully her. Still, she gathered her courage, wiped her tears, and went to open the door.
