Chapter 25 - Voidborn – Chapter 25: The Abyss of Eris

The Iron Vanguard moved through the Luminfall Clearing like ghosts drifting across a graveyard of light. White spores hung in the air like drifting motes of stars, and every step seemed to echo in the vast silence. The ground pulsed faintly beneath them, a rhythmic sapphire glow emanating from a jagged fissure in the earth. Ivan Korovin led the march, his Stage 4 Sky Walker aura radiating a heavy anchor that steadied the younger warriors, restraining their jittering energy.

"The resonance is peaking," Ivan muttered, his voice a low rasp that barely disturbed the drifting spores. Behind him, three Stage 2 and Stage 3 Sky Walkers hovered inches above the forest floor, their flight effortless yet tense. Six Stage 9 Beast Masters moved in a tight terrestrial formation, hands clenched white-knuckle tight around their weapons, their senses sharp to every flicker of movement in the shadows.

As they entered the cavernous fissure, the air immediately cooled, carrying the faint hum of ancient energy. Embedded in the crystalline ceiling were the Luminar Shards, jagged teeth of violet crystal that pulsed in perfect rhythm with the fissure below. The Beast Masters took a cautious step forward to claim the first shard, but the cave seemed alive.

A shadow flickered, and from the darkness descended a Star-Screech Wyvern, its scales shimmering in the violet hues of the Duskmire. A Stage 3 Sky Walker beast, it did not simply fall it glided, wings like tattered silk brushing the cavern walls. A sonic pulse exploded from its throat, rattling the bones of the lower-level warriors and shattering their focus.

"Formation!" Ivan's roar tore through the cavern, anchoring his team.

The ensuing battle was a dance of chaos and precision. The six Beast Masters slammed their palms into the cave floor, channeling their combined essence to create a localized Gravity Well. The Wyvern's wings suddenly grew heavy, and as it twisted midair, its serrated tail lashed outward, sending two Beast Masters crashing into the jagged crystal walls.

Above, the three Sky Walker lieutenants streaked through the air like silver lightning, weaving between claws and snapping scales. One took a direct strike to the shoulder, his flight faltering, only to be caught by a teammate's sudden gust of wind. Seeing his group buckle, Ivan ignited his aura, a blazing golden storm that cracked the cavern floor beneath him.

"Know your place!" he thundered, striking the Wyvern's skull with a Heaven-Falling Strike. The impact sounded like a mountain collapsing, the shockwave shattering nearby crystals and silencing the beast mid-screech. The Wyvern's form dissolved into shimmering motes of starlight, leaving behind the sought-after Luminar Shards and a pulsating Azure Beast Core the condensed crystalline heart of a Stage 3 Sky Walker beast.

Ivan stooped and claimed the core, issuing the order, "Collect the shards. The scent of death travels fast in the Eclipse Forest."

Once sold through Maze, each member received 40 Eclipse Credits. The rarity and power of this Luminar Shard granted them 150 PT, raising their total to 219, climbing to Rank 22.

Elsewhere, the Riftclaw Basin stretched, dense with gravity distortions that made the air crackle with spatial instability. The Nebula Serpent Circle hovered at the edge of a jagged, crystalline cavern, led by the chilling presence of Eira Sylis, a Stage 5 Sky Walker whose frost-laden armor seemed impervious even in the humid forest. Her three core warriors had reached Stage 4, while six recently ascended Stage 1 Sky Walkers hovered nearby, forming a fully airborne team for the first time.

Inside the cavern, embedded on a pedestal of concentrated energy, lay a massive cluster of Chrono Essence Stones and a rare Void Crystallite, their luminescence almost intoxicating. Yet guarding the treasure was a Planet Guardian Stage entity a Void-Chained Behemoth. Its obsidian armor shifted like living shadows, and every breath distorted the dimensions, warping the air around it.

"Do not engage! We are here for the harvest, not the kill!" Eira commanded, her Stage 5 aura amplifying her voice into the cave itself.

The warriors moved as one, a symphony of precision. Stage 4 Sky Walkers drew the beast's attacks while Stage 1 members darted forward to seize the treasures. The Behemoth's tail lashed with incomprehensible speed, shattering crystalline walls, yet the Nebula Serpent Circle's coordination was flawless. They snatched the Chrono Essence Stones and Void Crystallite, retreating as the cavern collapsed behind them. Their victory was not in slaying a god-tier predator but outmaneuvering it.

Eira deposited the treasures into the Quantum Relay Beacon. Gold light erupted as the haul teleported to the AI hub. Above the Verdant Eclipse Forest, the sky flashed crimson: a "Legendary Grade" recovery.

Meanwhile, the Obsidian Star Legion soared, their coordinated strikes granting them Rank 11 with 301 PT. Michael's curiosity burned as he noticed the breadth of Arata Kurogane's acquisitions. "Where do you get all these treasures?" he asked, suspicion lacing his tone.

"My father," Arata said softly, eyes forward, voice calm. "A warrior ranked among the top. But names are dangerous here. We survive in the shadows." She would say no more, and Michael let the question hang, his curiosity deepening.

One year and six months later.

The Obsidian Star Legion patrolled the dense, bioluminescent forest of Eris. Shadows stretched across the glowing foliage when suddenly, a colossal figure eclipsed the sun. Arata's eyes sharpened. "Run!" she shouted, but the shadow moved faster than their instincts could process.

From the violet clouds descended the Skyshiver Drake, a Stage 7 Sky Walker apex predator. Wings of jagged obsidian glass cut the air. Michael stepped forward, his Eclipse Rod glowing with golden law energy. Arata drew her Nagamaki into a guard stance, Time Domain activating: a one-minute bubble of stillness where only she could move.

Silver arcs of light carved through frozen air as the Drake barreled forward. Time snapped back the delayed impact sent the beast roaring.

Two more shadows fell from the sky, Stage 9 Star Warrior apex predators, scales shimmering with cosmic metal. Syla Veyrin and Talia Norex, Stage 3 Sky Walkers, attempted distraction maneuvers, but the beasts unleashed a spiral of kinetic frost, knocking them from the sky. Michael's shield shattered under the combined assault, sending him, Drex, and Veyra tumbling through the undergrowth.

At Starfall Covenant Headquarters, alarms screamed. Galaxy Lords demanded immediate intervention, yet Selara's calm voice over the comms silenced their panic:

"They must learn. Interference now will stunt their growth. Trust their training."

Cornered, Arata crushed the Azurea Crystal, unleashing a cerulean dome. A massive, translucent barrier enveloped the Legion, the kinetic force of the three Star Warriors absorbed into shimmering veins of blue frost. The beasts' weight tripled, forcing them to sink into the forest floor. Inside, the Legion stood in pristine clarity, observing the frustrated predators.

The alpha Star Warrior let out a scream, and the three coordinated to move the dome, kicking it skyward. The barrier smashed into a vine-choked valley below, fracturing the earth and revealing a subterranean kingdom, ancient stone walls echoing around them. The earth shifted, sealing the entrance and cutting off Covenant tracking entirely. The Obsidian Star Legion stood alone, deep within a hidden, forgotten empire.

Michael's curiosity flared again, his eyes on Arata. Even as a Stage 2 Sky Walker, her leadership and foresight exceeded her cultivation, and the treasures she had amassed hinted at skills and secrets beyond understanding.

The Eridian Crucible had only begun, and the abyss of Eris was just opening its teeth.
