Later that afternoon Emily noticed something strange.
Employees in the office were whispering again.
Whenever she walked by, conversations stopped.
Emily frowned.
"What now?"
She opened her phone.
And froze.
A new article had just been published.
"Emily Carter Used Her Relationship With CEO To Gain Access To Company Projects."
Emily's heart dropped.
"This isn't true."
The article accused her of influencing business decisions.
Even worse—
It claimed she had secretly benefited financially.
Emily rushed into Alexander's office.
"Have you seen this?"
Alexander looked at the article calmly.
"Yes."
Emily waited nervously.
"You believe me… right?"
Alexander closed the laptop.
"I already know the truth."
Emily exhaled in relief.
"But the board might not."
Emily's stomach tightened.
