That evening Emily stayed late again finishing reports.
The office building was quiet.
Almost empty.
She stretched her arms tiredly.
"Another long day."
Just then the elevator doors opened.
Alexander walked out.
"You're still here."
Emily smiled slightly.
"You're one to talk."
Alexander placed his jacket on the chair beside her desk.
"Finish the report?"
Emily nodded.
"Finally."
The office lights reflected softly across the glass walls.
For a moment everything felt peaceful.
Emily glanced at Alexander.
"Can I ask you something?"
Alexander looked at her.
"What is it?"
Emily hesitated.
"You never talk about your past."
Alexander was silent.
Emily continued carefully.
"Were you always this… strong?"
Alexander leaned back in his chair.
"No."
Emily waited.
After a moment he spoke again.
"My father built Knight Corporation."
Emily listened quietly.
"He was murdered when I was twenty."
Emily's eyes widened.
Alexander's voice remained calm.
"The business world is not kind."
Emily felt a sudden wave of sympathy.
"I'm sorry."
Alexander looked at her.
For the first time…
His expression softened completely.
"Thank you."
