Chapter 6 - Chapter Four - Drive to the Church

Yuji Itadori POV

Mister Nanami was really quick with that paperwork compared to last time when those guys in black suits sent me to an orphanage.

I think he must have done something wizardly to make them speed up or something.

But anyway, here we were driving up towards a creepy looking church "so uh Mister Nanami why exactly are we going to the church of all places?" I asked.

"First off drop the mister you can just call me Nanami I don't mind. Next, as you'll eventually come to understand Itadori. There are specific organizations within the supernatural world. One of them being the Holy Church, the overseer or rather the head priest in the church will inform a group of certain individuals to hunt down Rynosuke and Caster for breaking certain rules that aren't supposed to be broken. From there we can only leave it up to them to take care of the problem," Nanami explained clearly not all too happy about it but otherwise resigned.

"So, the church is basically Wizard Police then right sensei?" I guessed.

"Again, no need to call me sensei either, and yes in a way they sort of are the 'Wizard Police' as you so put it. Along with another organization called the Clocktower," I could tell there was more to it but decided to let it go for now and enjoy the view outside the car window.

We passed a red bridge with a clean looking lake, the sun shining down on it made it really nice to my eyes.

A smile grows on my lips watching it.

Eventually we drove past it where I saw some old buildings along with a mix of traditional ones and some people walking about on the sidewalks.

"So how long have you lived here in Fuyuki City then Nanamin," I decided on a nickname since sensei or mister didn't fit him.

"You know if you weren't a kid I'd have hit you, but to answer your question I've only lived here for five years," he grumbled.

A laugh nearly threated to come out seeing how irritated he looked "s-so do you like it here?"

There was pause that lasted exactly long enough to be considered "well it's certainly quieter than London. The food's better to," he eventually replied.

"You lived in London before?"

"For a time," was all he said.

I waited for him to give more details but nope he didn't say anything else.

Alright I was now starting to get the impression that getting information from Nanami was going to be a consistent exercise in patience. Which sucked since patience was probably my weakest subject, right behind Math.

"You're not very talkative are you Nanamin," I pointed out.

"I think you talk enough for the both of us Itadori," was the response I got.

I thought about arguing about it and decided he wasn't entirely wrong "well your not wrong there but talking's is all I have unless your trying to bore me," I admitted.

Again, silence was all I got "fine be that way hmph!" I twisted my head back to the side mirror.

It takes some unknown amount of time until we finally make it.

The church appeared at the top of a gentle hill as we rounded a corner, and I sat up straighter despite myself.

The building wasn't that tall and the stone that had been white once was now a brownish color.

"Man, this place gives me the creeps" I said with a barely repressed shiver.

"Mm."

"Do you think the priest's creepy too Nanamin?" I questioned while thinking back to some of those horror movies I used to watch with my gramps.

Nanami's jaw did something subtle "from what I know of the man he's rather normal, but I have had encounters with some priest who were not to...friendly," he tensely added sounding almost unsure if that was the word he wanted to use.

.

.

.

Nanami eventually parked the car on the road outside the church gate and killed the engine.

For a moment he just sat there with both hands on the wheel, looking up at the building through the windshield with an expression that was professionally neutral.

Then he turned to look at me.

"You'll stay in the car," he said.

"Wha-"

"This isn't a discussion. The man I'm about to speak with is..." another of those careful pauses, "not someone you need to be introduced to at the current moment. You'll stay in the car, you won't approach the church, and you won't do anything with your abilities where anyone can observe you."

I looked up at the church then back to Nanami.

"Okay," I said slumping back in my seat with defeat.

He studied me for a second then nodded once, opened the door, and got out.

He quickly adjusted his suit jacket and started walking up the path toward the church without looking back.

The metal gate of the church entrance closed behind him.

Leaving me alone to my thoughts.

That probably wasn't a good idea because now it leaves my brain with nothing to do but replaying the events of last night in my head.

Kenta's back arching off the cage floor.

I focused on the door handle taking it's details.

It was chrome and slightly smudged.

The sound that wasn't Hiroshi's voice.

Watching Daisuke body die in agony.

I turned to look at the dashboard this time.

There was a scratch near the glove compartment, and the material was obviously a wrinkly leather.

'Twenty-three other kids.'

'Twenty-three.'

Twenty-three-

I held up my hand and with a bit of focus I felt the familiar sensation of heat rushing through my fingertips.

Beads of blood welled out like a stream, the heat like sensation was now dull.

Distracting myself with this would have to do for now.

For the next few seconds, I merely twirled the beads around until I merged them into a small orb the size of a medium bouncy ball "haha this is kind of cool I am basically like a water bender from the Avatar but with blood."

I messed around with all kinds of shapes.

A cube, square, flat circle, and lastly a thin needle like shape that I had once seen the doctor's use for my flu-shots.

From there all it took was a simple thought to rapidly switch it between liquid, solid, and crystal.

I carefully shaped the needle again this time wanting to instead see if I could replicate a lesser version of that piercing blood technique I did.

Compared to before I didn't compress it so much only just by a little. After that I began the careful step of making it fire away like a gun but less damaging.

Which of course turned out to be the wrong thing to do as the needle went flying across the interior of the car and hit the glove compartment with a sound similar to a small stone thrown hard and left a tiny mark in the plastic.

I stared at it with wide eyes.

Then I looked out the window to make sure no one had seen that.

The church path was empty and so to was the street.

I slid down slightly in my seat and looked back at the small dent in the glove compartment.

Nanami was for sure going to notice that immediately.

I spent the next few minutes trying to figure out if I could smooth it out somehow and concluded that I absolutely could not make it better and had a better chance of actually making it worse.

I can only pray that Nanami doesn't actually say anything about the dent or that his glasses don't let him notice it right away.

Sitting back down I made another orb of blood above my palm and watched it rotate around. For now, I'd just stick with manipulating it around unless I wanted to accidentally leave another mark somewhere in the car.

-end of chapter four-

So, nothing really interesting just Nanami and Yuji hanging out a bit before going to the church to go inform Risei Kotomine about Caster/Rynosuke, and Yuji messing around with his blood manipulation to not let himself think about the events of last night (the heat described in this chapter and the other one is basically the feeling of 'mana' flowing)

True Ancestors are the ones who can use Marble Phantasms, our boi Yuji can't use that as his father wasn't a 'True' Ancestor and has diluted bloodline that's mostly oni with a bit of human in him.

Instead, he's likely to develop a reality marble that could be on the edge of a marble phantasm.

Anyways these next few chapters are just moments with him and Nanami along with some magecraft related info dumps before we jump back into the plot with Yuji joining up with Rin on her adventure to go stop Rynosuke/Caster.

Next thing I want to confirm are that his mystic eyes can turn off/on and he has no control over it at the current moment.

I may introduce the whole Sukuna ability and stuff through memories that Yuji could experience from having his Oni-Powers awakened which by default now allows the Sukuna Fingers inside of him to sort of begin transcribing his technique onto Yuji.

You guys let me know for any better suggestions or if you think this one's good.

Like always positive comments help with my boost of motivation and I'll see ya'll in the next chapter.
