"I'll be there."
As soon as Lucian said those words, he hung up, still holding Ashley's curious gaze. All morning, Lucian had ignored Gustav's calls, even though he knew Dominion had probably gotten a lead.
But for Lucian to say he would be there after only a few seconds on the call, she knew it was important.
"I have to go," he said with a controlled sigh. "Will you go to the hospital to meet those people?"
She nodded, but she didn't dwell on that. "Lucian, is something the matter?"
Naturally, Lucian's response would have been his default: It's nothing, or something like don't worry about it. But before he could say those words like he used to, he bit his tongue and held her curious gaze.
"Gustav said the big boss of the White Serpent is at the company," he answered, watching her reaction.
Ashley's brows rose before furrowing in confusion.
"Really?" she hummed, and he nodded. "Weird."
