Salvatore found Milo sitting on the edge of the bed later that night, still in his day clothes.
"You've been quiet today," Salvatore said, settling down beside him. He knew what had happened in the office.
Roderick was ready to go to sleep, just lying down on the bed. "He keeps thinking about what Caruso said. About him not being capable, right?"
Milo remained silent.
"Never be afraid of them," Salvatore said, his voice low but firm. "Hartley has enough to support itself. Even in the worst case, I can support you as well. I can kill that old man if you want."
Milo's head snapped up. "No. I don't want him to die." He paused. "As I've learned these past few weeks... I see his intention. He has a good reason to doubt me."
Salvatore's jaw tightened slightly. "You should tell him to fuck off. He has the right to know the condition of the company, but that doesn't mean he has the right to control everything."
Milo looked down. "It's just... I'm not capable enough."
