Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: The Speech

Inside the car;

William and Hank sat together in the back seat.

His long blonde hair was carefully groomed and combed back into a mature-looking slicked-back style.

He wore a custom-made shirt, suit, leather shoes, and tie.

Meanwhile, Hank listened to the report coming through his earpiece. After about half a minute, he spoke up:

"Boss, security has been confirmed. You can exit the vehicle."

"Ah, alright."

William nodded, then stepped out of the car under Hank's protection.

Stepping outside, he breathed in the salty sea air and glanced at the towering United Nations building.

He couldn't help but sigh to Hank beside him, "I remember when coming to New York didn't require such a huge fuss, but things have certainly changed."

Hank, not overthinking it, flanked William with three other Alphas and said as they walked into the building:

"Boss, you are Umbrella's most indispensable asset, so your safety is our primary concern."

Sandwiched in the middle, William's feet almost left the ground; he was practically being 'delivered' into the building.

Alpha Squad followed closely behind, while the rest of the USS remained outside to monitor movements and drive the convoy to the parking lot.

After all, the meeting was scheduled to start at two o'clock, and there were still representatives from other countries who hadn't arrived, also escorted by their own convoys.

They couldn't cause a traffic jam.

Inside the lobby;

After confirming everything was secure, Hank and the other Alphas finally let go of William, restoring his right to move freely.

William didn't blame these bodyguards for their 'rough' actions at all; instead, he turned and smiled:

"I am Umbrella's most indispensable asset, and you USS are also my indispensable safeguard. Thank you."

"Boss..."

Hearing William's words, Hank and the group of Alphas were somewhat touched.

The assimilated USS held absolute loyalty to William, but that didn't mean they were devoid of personal emotions.

A man's breaking point often comes in an instant.

"Alright!"

William slapped Hank's shoulder hard and said, "We're all men, don't go getting all sentimental here!"

"Yes, Boss!" the group of USS roared.

"Ah—!" This sudden roar nearly scared the receptionist who had come to greet them onto the floor.

Fortunately, this receptionist had a strong psychological tolerance. After a brief pause to steady himself, he approached William and said respectfully:

"Hello, Mr. Russell. Please follow me."

"Haha," William said apologetically, "I'm sorry, my security team must have startled you."

"Uh..."

Looking at William's handsome face and polite manner, the male receptionist couldn't help but blush.

'Holy crap!'

Noticing the other's reaction, William thought to himself that this was bad, then gave an awkward smile:

"Uh... let's not waste any time. Please lead the way."

"Ah? Right, right." The receptionist snapped out of it and gestured toward the hall, saying:

"This way, Mr. Russell."

"Good."

Surrounded by a crowd as he headed to the hall, William looked at the receptionist walking ahead and couldn't help but secretly wipe the cold sweat from his forehead.

He felt like his looks were a bit too universally appealing... but he was a straight man through and through; he couldn't be bent.

'Should I have Hank arrange for some ladies and try to enjoy myself for once?'

William suddenly asked himself.

With his money and status, he could indeed play with women of all classes.

When the company was just starting out, he hadn't had the mind for such things, but now everything was on track, and all sorts of technologies beyond the current generation would be developed by Halsey... Halsey?

'We'll see later.' William nipped the emerging thought in the bud.

Under the receptionist's guidance, the group arrived at the iconic tiered assembly hall of the United Nations.

Inside the hall, besides suit-clad bodyguards like Hank and the Alphas, were representatives sent by various countries.

The representatives were either sitting alone waiting quietly or huddled together in discussions that were friendly on the surface.

Due to security restrictions, Hank and the Alphas were left on the perimeter, while William followed the receptionist to his designated seat.

With more than ten minutes left before the meeting started and not being familiar with most of the national representatives, William chose to sit in his seat and wait patiently.

"Mr. Russell, long time no see."

"Hmm?" Hearing someone strike up a conversation beside him, William turned his gaze toward the source.

It was a balding old man in his sixties, with a Canadian maple leaf pin on his lapel.

Paul Hellyer.

The current Canadian Minister of Defense.

It was precisely with Paul's assistance that Umbrella could sign the "Anomalous Phenomena Protocol" contract with the Canadian military and smoothly convene this United Nations meeting.

For this sixty-four-year-old minister, William still showed the proper respect.

He stood up and smiled politely, "It has indeed been a while, Mr. Minister."

"Haha." Paul also smiled and sat down beside William, saying:

"We're all on the same side, no need for formalities."

"True." William sat back down.

"Mr. Russell," Paul said in a low voice at this time:

"The Prime Minister already has a general understanding of the Athabasca matter. He asked me to convey his thanks to you. From now on, Canada will be Umbrella's strongest backer.

Go ahead and do what you need to do."

"Mm." William nodded slightly.

The Canadian military was not mentally prepared to fight those anomalous phenomena. If it weren't for Umbrella, the Canadian Soldiers would have surely suffered heavy casualties.

Moreover, with Umbrella bringing in massive capital and various reasons for the recovery of the Canadian economy... William maintained a look that suggested this was only natural, showing no surprise at all.

The time quickly reached two o'clock sharp.

Under the moderation of the UN Secretary-General, the hall, which could accommodate hundreds, gradually quieted down, and William was invited to the stage to give his speech.

Standing before the most powerful people in the World, William introduced himself with great poise:

"Everyone, I am the owner of Umbrella Corporation, William Russell.

I presume my name hasn't been unfamiliar to you all over the past period of time.

I won't waste words with unnecessary talk. Please first take a look at these video materials."

After speaking, William took out a USB drive and plugged it into the computer on the podium.

The projection screen hanging in the center of the conference hall began to play the contents of the USB drive.

First was a first-person combat video from a squad leader of a certain platoon in the Remover Company;

The squad leader held a rifle, standing in the middle of a street with his squad.

A large number of Zombies emerged within their field of vision, rushing toward the squad without any fear.

Squad Leader: (Calm and low tone) Captain, this is ■ Platoon ■ Squad. We have detected a large number of hostile targets. Requesting instructions.

Victor: Free fire. No need to conserve ammunition.

Squad Leader: ■ Squad copies. Everyone, open fire.

Everyone: Yes, Sergeant.

Subsequently, the Soldiers of the squad very skillfully eliminated the Zombies, using rapid semi-auto fire for direct kills.

This demonstrated the powerful and unique combat capability of the UBCS when facing humanoid creatures...
