Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: Just How Many People Has My Family Offended, Anyway?

"So other than those four, there's no one else here who can threaten us, right?" Kurapika asked.

"Mm, of course. Your Nen abilities weren't learned for nothing. If the others run into you, they'll be taken out instantly."

Kurapika got the answer he wanted, and Leorio's fighting spirit flared back to life as well. "Hmph, so there are only four dangerous people? I'm definitely going to get that Hunter License!"

Then, naturally, Hisoka put on a little show, making someone's arms disappear like a magic trick, further proving just how terrifying he was and wiping away the tiny bit of arrogance the trio had developed after teaching themselves Nen.

Hisoka the Magician, No. 44, was perhaps the most popular and also the strangest character in all of Hunter x Hunter. If you called him a villain, he had once fought side by side with the protagonist. But if you called him one of the good guys, then from any angle, he was still a cold-blooded creature who treated human life like dirt.

Perhaps it was precisely that blurry line between good and evil that made him even more popular.

But no matter how one put it, in the end, Hisoka was a sinister, arrogant, absolutely abnormal, and utterly unpredictable kind of person.

Just as Gon and the others were looking around, the silver-haired boy Killua Zoldyck entered their field of vision.

He was carrying a skateboard, his hands tucked in his pockets, wandering around without any clear destination.

And yet every step he took was flawless. As an outstanding talent of the Zoldyck family of assassins, he had long since learned to place his own safety first. No matter the environment, he would never lower his guard.

"Yo, you're Killua Zoldyck?"

When Killua drew near Roy and the others, Roy called out to him.

As the male lead's main counterpart, Killua, compared with Gon's reckless, straightforward way of thinking and acting, was undoubtedly more careful and mature, and in the later parts of the story, he became even more beloved by readers.

Killua heard the voice and turned his head. The vigilance in Kurapika and Leorio's eyes looked no different from ill intent to him, so naturally, he got the wrong idea.

"...You've got to be kidding me. Don't tell me people even come after me during the Hunter Exam. Just how many people has my family offended, anyway? How many enemies have we made?"

Kurapika and Leorio had only shown the most natural kind of caution because Roy had told them earlier that the silver-haired boy before them, Killua, possessed the strength to take down beginner-level Nen users.

But that caution, combined with Killua's oversharp instincts and even stronger wariness, made him mistake them for enemies of the Zoldyck family coming to settle scores.

So he took his hands out of his pockets and spread them outward in a helpless gesture.

Yet beneath that appearance, his whole body had already tensed up, and even the angle of his hands was set in a way that would protect himself to the greatest extent possible.

Killua trusted his instincts very much. Even though these people did not look especially strong on the surface, and there was nothing particularly outstanding about them at first glance, his intuition told him that this group in front of him was anything but ordinary.

Under those circumstances, he continued probing, "I already ran away from home. I have nothing to do with them anymore. If you want to cause trouble for the Zoldyck family, then go to Kukuroo Mountain. Someone over there will receive you."

While Killua was speaking, Roy could clearly feel a gaze fixed on this side.

Judging from their current position and the direction of that line of sight, it should be Killua's older brother, that overbearing brother, watching what was happening here.

Roy could sense it, and naturally Android 18 could sense it as well. She did not like being stared at with ill intent like that.

So she released just a trace of her aura and sent it sweeping toward Illumi's direction.

Crack... crack... cra... ck...

Illumi, disguised as the needle man Gittarackur, instantly went quiet. In a place no one else could see, a bead of cold sweat slid down his forehead.

"That aura just now... that kind of power... Even Father and Grandfather might find it troublesome."

"Who exactly are they?"

...

Meanwhile, Roy looked at Killua, who appeared calm on the surface but was actually extremely tense, and suddenly felt a mischievous urge to tease him. He could not help smiling slightly.

"No need to be nervous. I have no grudge against the Zoldyck family. I just wanted to see what the member hailed as the greatest genius in the family's history was like."

As he spoke, Roy stepped forward.

And Killua instinctively stepped back.

But the moment he stepped back, it felt as though he had bumped into someone.

"Not bad. That reaction speed really does live up to the name of genius."

A flood of cold sweat burst from Killua's face. Roy's voice had sounded from behind him!

The person he had bumped into... was Roy!

He immediately flipped forward twice, then widened his eyes and turned back to stare at Roy, who was smiling at him.

No matter how he looked at it, that smile felt unbelievably dangerous.

"This guy... when did he get behind me?! How could anyone be that fast?!"
