Chapter 71 - Chapter 71: A Five-Hundred-Million-Jenny Deal

Hanzo's eyelid twitched. He was worried that Killua might turn out to be just like Gon. If that happened, it really would be a headache. But...

He looked at the expressionless Killua, and his expression gradually turned serious.

This silver-haired brat was completely different from the one before.

...

"Bang!"

Hanzo and Killua crossed past each other.

Killua had already taken a punch to the face, and one side of it was now red and swollen.

"So you haven't mastered the power that brat from before used."

Hanzo's tone became much more relaxed.

Since the silver-haired brat in front of him didn't have that turtle-shell-like power, then although he was not weak, there was still a definite gap between them. Hanzo was confident he could win this match.

And the final result was exactly as Hanzo had expected. For certain reasons, Killua had not learned Nen, so he really was no match for Hanzo.

On top of that, under Illumi's influence, and with the needle he had inserted into Killua's head still taking effect, Killua discovered after only two exchanges that if he couldn't kill his opponent, then he had no chance of winning. The moment he realized that, he immediately chose to surrender.

His speed in giving up actually made Hanzo pause for a moment. After all, the contrast between Killua's clean decisiveness and Gon's stubborn refusal to yield was just too great.

If he couldn't kill the target, then he would give up immediately.

That was the Zoldyck family's method of training, and it was also one of Killua's weaknesses.

Killua walked over to the sidelines with both hands in his pockets, turning his head so no one could see his expression.

After that, the matches for the group on the right began.

Quite a few unexpected situations came up in the following matches as well.

Hisoka whispered something into Kurapika's ear, then voluntarily forfeited.

As for Android 18 and Illumi...

"I heard your family comes directly from the world-famous assassin organization, the Zoldyck family?"

There was a strange gleam in Android 18's eyes as she looked at Illumi.

"What about it?" Illumi still wore a blank expression, but every part of his body was on guard.

The woman in front of him also possessed extremely formidable strength.

"Then your family must be very rich too, right? How about it? Want to make a deal with me?"

"What kind of deal?"

"Five hundred million! Five hundred million Jenny. As long as you give me five hundred million Jenny, I can forfeit this round."

Android 18 paid absolutely no attention to the referee's spectacular expression or the bizarre looks from the examiners nearby.

Although everyone had thought about it before, this match truly had no restrictions. Even bribing your opponent on the spot and buying a victory for a few hundred million Jenny would not count as breaking the rules.

But that was only something people imagined!

Who would have thought that among this group of examinees, there really was someone shameless enough to buy and sell a Hunter License with money out in the open?!

And to do it right in front of the examiners and the Chairman of the Hunter Association?!

At the side, Chairman Netero was laughing happily.

"Hehehe, interesting. Truly interesting!"

Leorio looked on with obvious envy. That was a full five hundred million!

If only he had strength like that too...

"Pah!"

Leorio let out a sigh.

Meanwhile, after hearing Android 18's proposal, Illumi seriously began thinking about it.

"Five hundred million is too much," Illumi answered after a moment.

"Then the negotiation's off. I'm not lowering the price."

As she said that, Android 18 smiled.

...

Crackle crackle.

Bang! Clash!

After a round of fighting...

Bruised and battered, Illumi surrendered.

They were completely on different levels. It seemed his judgment had been correct. The person in front of him really did possess the kind of strength that would land someone on his family's difficult-target list.

After that came Hisoka versus Leorio, and Illumi versus Bodoro.

There was no doubt about it. Even though Leorio had learned Nen, the opponent he faced was Hisoka. He had absolutely no chance of winning.

After carefully judging the situation and making sure that afterward he would most likely face either Bodoro or Pokkle, he wisely chose to surrender before Hisoka could beat him into a serious injury.

Bodoro was not so fortunate.

As a martial artist, he wanted to challenge Illumi. Naturally, the result was that he was beaten into a critical state.

Under threat from Illumi's needle, Bodoro ultimately chose to surrender...

Next came Killua versus Pokkle.

Because of Roy's interference, Illumi was unable to step forward and stop Killua's choice.

And naturally, Killua was no longer as indifferent and careless about the Hunter Exam as he had been in the original story.

Having already lost one match, he did not hold back against Pokkle.

So the outcome was very clear.

After using Silent Gaits, Rhythm Echo, and a string of corresponding instant combo attacks,

Killua became the winner of the match without any suspense, and officially became a Hunter.

Nearby, Illumi silently watched Killua's victory, no one knowing what he was thinking.

As soon as he won, Killua immediately ran to Roy's side. He felt that staying close to Roy was the only way to feel safe.

At this point, the final loser of the group on the left had been decided: Pokkle.

And the loser of the group on the right would be decided between Leorio and Bodoro.

Bodoro dragged his exhausted, badly wounded body into the arena. He had already prepared himself mentally to refuse surrender no matter what.

Leorio also took a deep breath and walked into the arena.

At this moment, the examinees who had already passed looked fairly relaxed. There were still two remaining slots, to be decided among Leorio, Pokkle, and Bodoro.

Once the referee saw that both examinees were in place, he immediately announced the start.

...

This battle lasted quite a long time, because there was the condition that neither side could kill the other, and Bodoro was already heavily injured while also clinging to the conviction that he absolutely could not lose. All of that made things extremely troublesome for Leorio.

But in the end, Bodoro still surrendered.

There was no other reason. His injuries were already too severe. If he did not receive treatment in time, then even if he obtained a Hunter License, he would likely spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair.

That was something a martial artist in his prime could never accept.

The Hunter License could always be earned in another exam, but if his body was ruined, he might never stand up again.

In the end, this lonely old warrior lost one after another to Leorio and Pokkle, becoming the only examinee here who failed to become a Hunter.

But compared to the original version, where he was killed by Killua, Bodoro was already quite fortunate.
