"What did you just say?! Want to bet on who clears it first?!!"
"Fine by me. You think I'm scared? I can clear it in a month at most!"
"Then I'll do it in half a month!"
"Ten days!"
"Five days!"
"Three days!"
"STOP!" Seeing the two of them getting more and more outrageous, Roy cut them off on the spot.
"How about this: we split into two teams. Milluki comes with me. Gon and Killua, you two make up the other team."
"That works best," Killua agreed.
"I'll listen to Roy-aniki!" Milluki had no objections either.
"Good. Then we'll do it my way. Since Gon said he wants to get himself into the best condition first, we'll wait a little while. Milluki, you should make your preparations too. I believe your technological know-how will be able to play a big role in the game."
"Thanks, Roy~"
"Leave it to me, Roy-aniki!"
...
One week later, Yorknew City's Dream Auction came to an end, and Leorio also bid everyone farewell and returned to the hospital to hold down the fort.
Battera no longer appeared at the auction venue, and Tsezguerra took over the remaining matters on his behalf~
Gon and the others once again gathered in front of the game console.
"See you all in the game~"
With that, Roy put on the ring, inserted the memory card, and entered the game directly.
But before going in, he subconsciously glanced at the chair.
Playing the game was never Roy's real objective. He simply wanted to find a place suitable for training and tempering Milluki.
And right now, there was no better place for that than Greed Island.
After all, the main reason Ging had created this game back then was to train Gon.
If it could train Gon, then using it to train Milluki should not be a problem either~
As for the three rewards that could be brought into the real world after clearing the game?
If Roy really wanted them, he could just go straight to Ging.
This game had been designed by Ging and his companions together. Those cards on the island with all kinds of strange abilities had definitely been made by Ging's friends as well.
In the original story, Gon later turned into his adult form and smashed straight through Neferpitou, setting an extremely harsh Restriction and Vow that left his whole body gaunt and shriveled, half-dead.
Everyone else ran themselves ragged trying to heal Gon, while Ging acted as if nothing had happened and calmly went to take part in the Chairman election, to the point that Leorio ended up punching him.
If Ging could act like that, then either he truly did not care whether his son lived or died, or he had a way to heal Gon completely and therefore was not worried at all.
If Ging really did not care about Gon, then why would he keep sneaking off to Whale Island to watch him? Why would he arrange for Kite to deliberately appear on Whale Island and guide Gon onto the path of becoming a Hunter?
And why would he intentionally leave clues to Greed Island so that Gon could come here, train himself, and clear the game?
Every one of those actions showed that Ging cared deeply about his son.
So if he could still participate in the Chairman election that calmly, it meant he had absolute confidence that Gon could be healed.
That confidence most likely came from Angel's Breath.
Since a clear reward could be taken into the real world, that meant it could be used outside the island. In that case, even without clearing the game, as long as someone fulfilled enough troublesome conditions and restrictions, it was probably still possible to use it beyond the island itself.
So if Roy really wanted something from Greed Island, he could just go straight to Ging.
And as for whether Ging would agree to Roy's request, Roy was not worried about that at all.
In stories like these, there were plenty of irresponsible fathers who spent years away from home and left behind nothing but legends for their sons.
But while there were many irresponsible fathers like Ging, there really were not many tsundere bastards quite like him. He had left clues for his son, sure, but not only had he refused to leave behind the console, he had even wiped the save data clean.
Not only did he refuse to let Gon enjoy even the slightest thrill of taking the easy route, when he left Gon that message, he very clearly had built Greed Island as a training ground tailored specifically for him, yet still insisted he was only showing off the game he had made.
He was absurdly tsundere and unbelievably harsh on his own son.
Honestly, if Killua had not been by Gon's side, then forget about finding a Greed Island console. With how dense Gon was, he probably would not even have been able to open the iron box Ging had left behind~~~
Greed Island was a game created by Ging and several companions. The creators infused Nen into one hundred pieces of software. The moment the game started, that Nen activated as well, pulling the player into the game.
Once a player entered the game, it would continue even if the power was disconnected. The console itself could not be destroyed, and if the player died, the game would end as well. Only after finding a save point could the player return.
Also, only Nen users could play this game. Someone had once hired fifty people to try to crack the game, and among them only three even had Hunter Licenses, but in the end not a single one survived.
Greed Island was not a virtual game world at all. In reality, it used the console and Nen to transport players to a real island somewhere in the world.
Even so, unless someone tore the entire island apart, they would never realize it was real.
Roy only felt his vision darken for an instant, and then he found himself in a small room filled with a futuristic atmosphere.
"Hah~ The visual effect is even better than the VR in my old world~" Roy whistled and pushed open the door in front of him.
Then he saw something like a robot GM, though in reality she was a real young woman working as customer support.
"Welcome to the Greed Island game. Would you like to hear the game explanation?"
The customer service girl's pleasant voice rang out, and Roy merely nodded.
Then the girl began her explanation.
After the explanation ended, Roy rubbed his chin and carefully looked her over.
"The explanation has been completed. Please enter the game."
Roy did not move at all.
"The explanation has been completed. Please enter the game."
"The explanation has been completed. Please enter the game."
...
"Aren't you tired of this?" Roy finally asked after who knew how many repetitions.
The customer service girl had repeated herself many times, yet she did not show the slightest trace of impatience, as though she really were a robot and had been born wearing that exact expression.
"I remember there are a lot of people playing this game. Everyone who comes in arrives here first, right? Don't you get annoyed saying the same thing to every single person?"
Roy was genuinely curious. No matter how patient a person was, after serving as an explainer here for who knew how long, they should have gotten sick of it eventually, right?
And on top of that, this customer service girl was actually pretty cute. She was in the very bloom of youth, yet she was really willing to stay here and work as an explainer?
