Chapter 55 - Chapter 55: A Party in the Middle of the Night?

"A designated request?" Akeno blinked in surprise. "Do we know who it is?"

"Not clear. But based on the resonance from the flyer, the client is a newcomer. Moreover, they seem to be a newcomer who knows us quite well."

It wasn't uncommon for flyers to be used to summon specific Devils; Rias and her peerage often received requests from acquaintances. Most people just wanted money or power. But this request was strange. A newcomer shouldn't know their names.

"Buchou, I smell a conspiracy," Koneko said suddenly.

"It is indeed suspicious, especially given the familiar's report earlier..." Rias crossed her arms in thought, seemingly weighing her options.

"Buchou, since they specifically called for me, I should go," Akeno said with a faint smile. "Perhaps I can gather some intel."

"Alright... no, wait. The situation is too unclear. If it's a trap set by an enemy, it's too dangerous for you to go alone," Rias said, shaking her head firmly. "We'll go together. Even if there's an ambush, we won't have to worry too much."

"Understood." Akeno knew she couldn't win against Rias when it came to her safety. While bringing the whole team was technically against the usual protocol for a request, it was the sensible choice under the circumstances. Of course, Akeno didn't actually believe anyone could do much to her even if she went alone.

Once the group finished cleaning up the church, Rias activated a teleportation circle. A crimson light enveloped the four of them, and they vanished instantly.

When they reappeared, they were in the middle of a fairly ordinary-looking living room.

The teleportation ended. Rias immediately scanned the room. Kiba, the Knight, and Koneko, the Rook, began channeling their demonic power, surveying the environment and bracing for a sudden attack.

Akeno narrowed her eyes as she looked at the several people waiting in the room. The number was surprisingly high. She counted six strangers—two more than their own group.

What is this? she wondered. A midnight party to summon Devils for fun? Furthermore, the aura coming off some of these people was incredibly strange.

While Rias was observing the strangers, Rhode was also sizing up Rias and her group. To him, these characters were like "familiarly strange" acquaintances from the anime he had watched.

The blonde guy in the school uniform was likely Yuuto Kiba—nothing worth noting there. The other three, however, were exceptional beauties.

The most striking was undoubtedly Rias, with her hair as vivid as a burning flame, creating a sharp contrast against her porcelain skin. Her features were flawless, and her "illegal" figure filled out her school uniform to its limit. In particular, her chest—reminiscent of two towering peaks—was perfect in both curve and size.Standing beside Rias was a woman with lustrous, jet-black hair that reached down to her waist. Her gentle and poised expression exuded the refined charm of a Yamato Nadeshiko. Her violet-blue eyes were filled with a faint, shimmering smile, giving off a warmth as refreshing as a spring breeze.

Her figure was every bit a match for Rias's, boasting equally elegant and sultry curves. The "massive sinister presence" hidden beneath her school uniform was enough to make anyone struggle to look away.

Rias & Akeno: ( · Y · )

Behind them stood a petite, slender young girl—a literal loli. With short, silver-white hair and a face as expressionless as a porcelain doll's, she looked remarkably delicate. Her emerald eyes lacked emotional fluctuation, yet one could still sense a deep, vigilant seriousness within them.

When Rhode looked over, Koneko's gaze held a flicker of warning and hostility.

Tsk. Just like her sister, Kuroka. One little poke from an outsider and she starts hissing.

"May I ask which of you is the one who used the flyer?" Rias asked. She quickly scanned the room, her heart sinking slightly.

The three women standing by the sofa were undoubtedly the Fallen Angels she had been investigating. As for the rest, aside from Asia—who appeared to be an ordinary human—she couldn't see through the backgrounds of the remaining man and woman at all. A combination of Northern Europeans, Easterners, and Fallen Angels was a rare sight indeed.

"I am," Rhode replied. "Though, I recall only calling for one person."

At this, Rias shifted her focus entirely to Rhode, centering her attention on him. It wasn't hard to see that in this group of five women and one man, this man was the center. She just couldn't understand why he was wearing sunglasses inside his own home in the middle of the night.

Is there something wrong with him?

Rhode's decision to wear sunglasses wasn't because he had a "cool guy" complex; it was purely because his "auto-aim" passive skill would uncontrollably lock onto beautiful girls during conversation. This was especially problematic living with Lavinia, Kuroka, and the three Fallen Angels.

While he didn't mind his "household" knowing about his involuntary wandering eyes, he wanted to prevent his "auto-aim" from activating during his first meeting with Rias and her group. With the shades on, no matter where his eyes locked, no one could see his gaze.

Lavinia, having guessed Rhode's thoughts earlier, felt a bit speechless. Sitting next to him, she was fairly certain his "auto-aim" was currently in overdrive.

"You did indeed only call for Akeno," Rias said, crossing her arms with a haughty air. "However, before we proceed, perhaps you could explain why someone like you has come to the territory under my jurisdiction? Also, do you care to explain the situation at the church and these Fallen Angels?"

As the heir to the pure-blood High-class Devil House of Gremory, she possessed a natural, unquestionable authority and nobility. Ordinary people often struggled even to maintain their composure in her presence. Thus, she naturally couldn't afford to lose the upper hand in this negotiation.

"Raynare, you explain it."

"Me?" Raynare, suddenly called upon, was stunned for a moment.

Nonetheless, she was forced to step forward and explain their objective for coming to Kuoh Town, as well as the fact that they had been defeated by Rhode and taken as slaves.

Hearing the full story, Rias's brow furrowed slightly.

After all that fuss, it turned out these Fallen Angels had left Grigori on their own whim. That meant all the time she'd spent having her familiar investigate, the sleepless nights she'd spent pouring over data on Fallen Angels, and her general lack of rest was essentially her outsmarting herself against thin air. Had she known these Fallen Angels had no backing, she would have moved against them long ago.

Of course, the Fallen Angels weren't the main issue now. The real issue was this man, who possessed the power to make Fallen Angels submit. Even if he appeared to be human on the surface, his threat level was higher than a whole squad of Fallen Angels.
