Chapter 20 - Hoarding

Griffin smiled to himself, knowing how flustered the wolf sitting in front of him was.

[You're going to give him a heart attack at this rate.] Kael had been observing and reporting all of the wolf's reactions when Griffin wasn't watching. [Look how red he is. Think his head's gonna explode?]

"Oh hush, Kael. I was just teasing him. Maybe I took it too far though." Griffin watched as the redness in Nathan's face slowly faded while they ate. He was a little disappointed that Nathan didn't say anything or look at him throughout the meal though.

"So," he started as he collected the empty dishes, "what do you think about going to the lake so we can start getting you used to moving around?"

Nathan looked surprised at the idea. "The lake? Why the lake?"

Griffin turned from where he'd been washing the dishes. "I figured the water would help support your weight during the process. And it's going to be hot out today, I think you're going to enjoy the cool water."

"Okay," Nathan said after staring at him for several moments. "Whatever you think's best."

"Great. I'll just finish these up real quick, then I'll find you some shorts to wear."

It only took Griffin a few minutes to finish cleaning up from breakfast before he was moving to the bedroom to look for something that could be used as swim shorts for the small wolf.

"What do you think will work?" He asked Kael quietly.

[Mmm, I think you still have stuff from when you were growing up in the closet. Maybe you'll find a pair of pants you can cut the legs off of that would fit him.]

Following Kael's words, Griffin moved over the closet he used for storage and pulled it open. Inside there were boxes stacked almost to the top. "Yikes. Remind me to go through and clean this out later."

[I will but at least your hoarding tendencies might come in handy today,] Kael commented.

"Ha ha, very funny."

20 minutes later Griffin had pulled out and gone through almost every box. Finally he reached for the last one. "If those clothes are not in here I'm going to be mad at you for suggesting this in the first place," he grumbled.

[Yeah, yeah. Just open the box already.]

Inside the box, Griffin finally found his clothes from childhood. Rummaging through it, he found a pair of shorts that he knew he'd barely ever worn. "Perfect! And it has a string in case it's a little too big. I swear, Nate's so small, a strong gust of wind could blow him away."

Claiming his prize, Griffin made his way back out to the main room to find a dozing Nathan.

"He's so beautiful. Maybe we should just let him sleep. We can go to the lake tomorrow," Griffin sighed.

[Or we can go today. He's going to have to learn to walk eventually. Might as well do it now. Besides, if he gets tired while you're there he could always take a nap in your lap,] Kael pushed, trying to bribe Griffin to wake the boy.

"Oh, you're evil. I like it." Griffin kneeled so he wouldn't be towering over the boy when he awoke. Grabbing Nathan's shoulder, he gently began shaking him away. "Nate? It's time to get up. We've got swimming and walking to do."

Nathan's eyes twitched but didn't open as he groaned. "Nooo. Sleeeep."

Griffin laughed at that. "No sleep. Come on now, up." He continued shaking Nathan's shoulder, not letting him fall back asleep. "You can take a nap after lunch if you're tired, okay?"

After several more attempts, Griffin finally got Nathan to open his eyes. Nathan glared at him, before yawning widely. "Fine. Let's go to the lake."
