"I get it, Sis! I'm not an idiot!" Nawaki huffed, feeling annoyed. Why did it feel like everyone was treating him like a toddler?
Leaving Tsunade's tent, Ren and Nawaki headed straight for the emergency medical ward. Thanks to Tsunade's prior notification, they weren't blocked at the entrance. A medical ninja even accompanied them, hovering nearby to ensure they didn't touch anything out of curiosity and create more work.
Upon entering, the first thing that hit them was a wave of low, agonized groans. Shinobi lay packed together on the ground, with only thin white sheets separating them from the dirt.
Their faces were a sickly green, their lips purple, and cold sweat poured from their brows, soaking the fabric beneath them. Many twisted their bodies unconsciously, a desperate, futile attempt to shift away from the internal burning of the poison. It wasn't just a few; every single ninja in the tent was in the same state, with some having already slipped into deep, unresponsive comas.
The visual impact was visceral. Nawaki instinctively took a half-step back, his resolve wavering. He moved as if to help, but Ren grabbed his arm and pulled him out of the tent.
"Master?"
"Let's go. Don't add to their trouble."
Ren didn't need to explain further; Nawaki understood that as someone with zero medical knowledge, he would only be an obstacle. After tossing their masks aside and thoroughly disinfecting their hands, they returned to their own tent.
Nawaki remained uncharacteristically quiet during the walk, his mind racing with thoughts of how he could actually be useful.
"You're back! The food was delivered—eat up, we're starting our afternoon training soon," Minato greeted them with a smile.
"Mm. You guys keep working on Nature Transformation. I'm starting a new phase of training myself."
"New training?!" At the mention of this, Minato's eyes sparkled with anticipation.
"Uh, actually, I just accidentally sensed a strange energy. It's still in the early development stages," Ren explained.
"Strange energy?"
"Yeah. Hard to describe, but after drawing it into my body, it makes me feel just a little bit stronger."
Over the next few days, their routine remained largely unchanged: exchange insults and "test" moves with Chiyo's forces, return to train, and for Ren, check if his "mold" was still alive. He had even set up a separate tent to serve specifically as his laboratory.
Three days passed in a flash.
"Success." Ren's face lit up with joy.
Under his careful cultivation, the miracle drug Penicillin had finally made its debut in the shinobi world.
"So this is what you've been working on all these days?" Minato asked, peering at the glass vial in Ren's hand. "What does it do?"
"It's a secret for now!" Ren didn't elaborate, heading straight for Tsunade's tent.
"A secret? Master is being way too stingy!" Nawaki pouted.
Inside the command tent, Ren was about to present his findings when he saw Tsunade holding a moldy orange, inspecting it with clinical intensity. She didn't look up as he entered. "What is it? Did Nawaki do something stupid again?"
Ren shook his head and placed the vial on the table. "Penicillin. The bane of pathogens."
Tsunade finally shifted her focus to the object. "Bane of pathogens?"
She was skeptical. Ren was a genius, yes—but he was a combat and ninjutsu genius. Medicine was an entirely different world.
"Exactly. You can test the efficacy yourself. Your medical equipment is leagues better than my makeshift tent. Oh, and do an allergy test on the patient first, or you'll kill them."
Leaving the vial on the desk, Ren stretched, feeling the exhaustion of the past few days vanish. He had pushed himself to the limit to extract the penicillin; without proper equipment, he couldn't do much more. But Tsunade had the tools. He didn't need to worry about the rest.
Ren turned and left. Lately, his "Sage" training had become increasingly fluid. With his God-level physique, natural energy was absorbed easily. It wasn't the "Sage Mode" used by Naruto or Jiraiya; it was more like true cultivation—internalizing natural energy as his own. He even felt his lifespan had notched upward slightly.
After he left, Tsunade picked up the vial and summoned Katsuyu. "Katsuyu-sama, please use your chakra to investigate this substance."
"Oh! Little Tsunade! This thing is incredible!" Katsuyu exclaimed in wonder. "With this, the vast majority of 'incurable' toxins and infections in this world will cease to be a threat!"
"What?!" Tsunade's eyes widened. After Katsuyu confirmed the analysis several times, she looked at the penicillin with pure shock. "That boy..."
She knew he was a genius, but this was getting ridiculous. Shaking her head, the fatigue in her eyes vanished, replaced by a brilliant light. "If this truly works... victory belongs to Konoha!"
While Tsunade rushed to conduct experiments and formulate the antidote, Ren returned to the tent and was immediately swarmed.
"Ren, what was that stuff? What's it for?" Minato was dying of curiosity.
"A miracle medicine. I expect Lady Tsunade will have the cure for Chiyo's poison by tomorrow," Ren replied.
"Miracle medicine?" The group was confused.
Shibi whispered, "Chiyo is only in her late forties, maybe early fifties. Is she really at 'old hag' level yet?"
Technically, Chiyo was currently in her "graceful middle-age" phase. Ren rubbed his chin, considering Shibi's point. "To us, she's definitely an old hag. The title fits. Anyway, enough talk—I need to cultivate."
Ren lay down to absorb natural energy. Seeing him go back to "sleep," Minato and the others sighed and headed to the river to continue their training.
Inside the lab, Tsunade used the penicillin as a base to refine the antidote. When she saw the previously unstoppable virus being easily neutralized in the test samples, a bright smile finally broke across her face.
"We've won this war!"
She rushed to the emergency ward, ready to administer the cure. Just as she approached the first patient, she remembered Ren's warning about the allergy test. She stopped, applied a drop to the patient's skin, and waited fifteen minutes. Once no reaction occurred, she injected the serum.
The patient's complexion improved at a visible rate.
"It works! It actually works!" Tsunade's voice trembled with relief. The medical staff behind her erupted in cheers.
Confident in the results, Tsunade handed the rest of the antidote to Katsuyu. The great slug didn't hesitate, absorbing the medicine into its body.
"Alright, Little Tsunade. Leave the rest to me!"
"Yes! I'm counting on you, Katsuyu-sama!"
