Chapter 35 - Chapter 34: Almost Too Close

The hotel room had dimmed to a warm amber glow from the bedside lamp. Jay sat cross-legged on Keifer's lap again, her arms loosely around his neck, the teasing sparkle in her eyes making his focus nearly impossible.

"Stop looking at me like that," she murmured, brushing a stray hair from her face. "You're making it hard to think."

Keifer's hands lingered lightly on her hips, fingers brushing, almost possessive. "I can't help it," he muttered, his voice low. "You're… distracting."

Jay smirked, leaning closer, just enough that their noses almost touched. "Distracting? I thought I was comfortable. You just can't resist."

Keifer's jaw tightened. "Comfortable or not, you're reckless." His tone was teasing, but his eyes were intense, darkened by the magnetism she always seemed to pull from him.

Jay's lips curved into a mischievous smile. "Reckless? Maybe I like it when you're like this."

Keifer groaned softly, his hands tightening slightly at her waist, though he didn't move further. "You're going to get me into trouble," he whispered, almost under his breath.

Jay's cheek brushed against his as she leaned forward. "Maybe I want you to," she murmured. Her lips hovered near his jaw, close enough to feel his breath, to make his pulse skip.

Keifer's restraint cracked slightly. His fingers brushed her sides, his lips twitching as if to lean closer, but he caught himself.

"Jay…" he said, his voice rough with suppressed emotion. "You don't understand—"

"I understand plenty," she replied softly, her eyes locked on his. "I like that you can't resist me."

The air between them was thick with tension—magnetic, dangerous in its own way. Neither moved too far, neither pulled away, but both knew the closeness was pushing boundaries neither had dared cross completely yet.

Keifer exhaled, leaning back slightly, letting her weight rest on him. "This… this is getting ridiculous," he muttered, almost to himself.

Jay chuckled, brushing her lips against his neck in a soft, teasing gesture. "Ridiculous… or fun?"

He gave a small, reluctant smile, his hands resting possessively at her waist. "Maybe both."

For a moment, they stayed there, suspended in that fragile, heated closeness—eyes locked, breaths mingling, hearts racing.

The danger outside the hotel hadn't vanished, but in that moment, neither of them cared.
