Chapter 61 - Chapter 61: Pieces of the Puzzle

The hospital room was… loud again.

Not with machines.

But with siblings.

Keigan leaned against the wall, smirking.

"So… are we ignoring the fact that Ate Jay is still feeding Kuya like a wife?"

Jay froze.

"I will throw you out the window."

Keiren added dramatically, "She said she was mad, but look at her—still taking care of him."

Jane grinned. "Anger with benefits."

Percy crossed his arms proudly.

"My Sunshine just has taste. Obviously."

Aries sighed. "All of you are annoying."

Keifer chuckled softly—then winced.

Jay immediately turned. "Don't laugh! You're injured."

Everyone went silent.

Then—

Keigan whispered, "See?"

Jay grabbed a pillow. "GET OUT."

After forcing everyone out (with threats), the room finally quieted.

Jay sat at the small table, flipping through files.

Her expression was serious again.

Focused.

Lawyer mode.

Keifer watched her from the bed.

"You're working already?"

Jay didn't look up.

"This isn't over."

Jay spread out the documents.

"The threats… the timing… the attacks…"

She pointed at a file.

"They all connect to one thing."

Keifer leaned slightly forward.

"The case."

Jay nodded.

"My current case isn't just high-profile…"

Her eyes darkened slightly.

"It's exposing something big."

She slid a document toward him.

"A construction company," she explained.

"Accused of illegal land grabbing and forcing families out of their homes."

Keifer frowned.

"That's serious… but not enough for this level of attack."

Jay nodded.

"Exactly."

She pulled out another file.

"This company is just a front."

Keifer's expression changed.

"For what?"

Jay finally looked at him.

"For a bigger network."

Jay took a deep breath.

"The land they're taking?"

She tapped the paper.

"It's being used for illegal operations. Money laundering… hidden deals…"

Keifer's eyes narrowed.

"…and you're the one trying to expose it in court."

Jay nodded slowly.

"So they want me to lose. Or disappear."

Silence.

Keifer looked at the documents again.

Then something caught his eye.

A name.

His expression shifted.

"…this doesn't make sense."

Jay frowned. "What?"

He pointed at the file.

"This company's legal advisor…"

Jay leaned closer.

Her eyes widened.

"No way…"

The name on the file:

Luke Reyes.

Jay stepped back slightly.

"…Your Honor?"

Keifer's jaw tightened.

"He's been handling every case we've had together…"

Jay shook her head.

"No. That doesn't mean—"

But the pieces…

Started connecting.

Too well.

Too perfectly.

Jay turned away, pacing slightly.

"This doesn't make sense… he's always been fair…"

Keifer watched her carefully.

"Or he's been watching us the whole time."

Jay stopped.

Her chest tightened.

"No…"

But doubt crept in.

Keifer shifted again.

"I'm helping you with this."

Jay turned immediately.

"No."

"I'm not sitting here while you walk into danger again."

"You're injured!"

"I don't care."

"I do!"

Silence.

Both froze.

Jay looked away first.

"…just recover," she said quietly.

Keifer softened.

"…we'll do it together," he replied.

Jay looked at the file again.

At the name.

At everything connecting.

Her heart felt heavy.

If this was true—

Then the enemy wasn't just dangerous.

He was someone they trusted.

Someone who had been there from the start.

Watching.

Smiling.

Waiting.
