Chapter 67 - Chapter 67: Gods Are Not Necessarily Generous

At the same moment, people all over the world were fortunate enough to witness this magnificent spectacle once again.

A small number of people felt a sense of wonder, having never expected meteor showers to occur two days in a row.

The majority of people, however, were surprised to find that the meteor shower was accompanied by an unannounced earthquake.

Although it caused no damage, many people clearly felt the tremors.

...

Over where Fei Xiao's trio was located.

Meng Xi was methodically preparing dinner.

Lin Siyu was accompanying Dragonair in its flight training.

"Huh?"

Meng Xi's brow furrowed as her gaze was suddenly drawn to the rice bowl on the table; she noticed the bowl and chopsticks seemed to be... shaking slightly.

"Hmm? Sister Meng Xi, what's wrong?"

"Melo?"

Diancie and Meloetta noticed that Meng Xi's gaze seemed fixed on something, yet there was nothing special on the table.

"Look closely at these bowls and chopsticks."

Meng Xi leaned down while gesturing for the two to come closer.

After careful observation, the three were certain that the bowl was indeed trembling continuously.

"Sister Fei Xiao, come take a look quickly!"

Meng Xi immediately told Fei Xiao about this discovery.

Hearing this, Fei Xiao merely nodded, still gazing into the distance with no intention of moving.

"I know. Don't worry about it; it has nothing to do with us."

"What's wrong? What's wrong? What happened?"

Lin Siyu rushed over upon hearing the commotion.

Meng Xi briefly described her discovery, but since Fei Xiao said it had nothing to do with them, she put it out of her mind and continued preparing dinner.

Lin Siyu and Dragonair poked their heads out to stare at the strange phenomenon on the table.

"It's really moving!"

"Awoo!"

The girl and the dragon observed the incredible scene before them in wonder.

Fei Xiao glanced over casually, and combined with everything she had sensed earlier, she had a rough hypothesis in her mind.

"Sister Fei Xiao! Are these two Poké Balls in the bag yours? Are you hiding two more Pokémon?"

Lin Siyu had intended to grab two Tamato Berries to reward the hardworking little one, but she hadn't expected to pull out these two items.

"Those aren't my Pokémon.

One is holding the Ceruledge we met today, letting it recover slowly inside the Poké Ball.

The other one contains a Bulbasaur; it's a Pokémon that's been staying temporarily at my place.

However, because it was once hunted by humans and driven into a corner, it doesn't think much of humans.

This time, it actually wanted to come out on its own initiative; perhaps it wants to relax a bit."

Fei Xiao glanced sideways at the two Poké Balls in Lin Siyu's hand and quickly recalled their origins.

Lin Siyu looked surprised as she listened to Fei Xiao's explanation.

Even Meng Xi, who was chopping vegetables, paused the movement of her knife.

"That's so pitiful! What about its family?"

"I don't know. When I found it, I only saw its battered and bruised form.

In the beginning, it wouldn't even pay any attention to me."

Listening to the familiar narrative, Meng Xi remembered!

Isn't this the very example Fei Xiao used today during her confrontation with Old Man Li?

She hadn't expected it to be the protagonist of the story.

Lin Siyu looked somewhat dejected after hearing Fei Xiao's answer, staring at the Poké Ball in her hand, unable to help but feel sympathy for its plight.

"Can I let it out to take a look?"

Fei Xiao rested her chin on one hand and didn't rush to agree, thinking briefly: "Fine, but don't force any contact. You can let Diancie and the others communicate with it.

Remember! Don't force it! This Bulbasaur is only a few years old by human standards."

"Okay!"

Lin Siyu nodded.

In a flash of white light, a four-legged Pokémon resembling a toad appeared.

It had bright red eyes with white pupils and sclera, and a pair of protruding ears on top of its head. Its nose was short and blunt, and it had a wide mouth. When its mouth was open, a pair of small, sharp teeth could be seen in the upper jaw.

Its skin was blue-green with dark green markings. Each of its thick legs ended in three-toed feet, each tipped with small white claws.

Lin Siyu decided to test the new Pokédex Meng Xi had given her.

"Bulbasaur. It is said that at birth, a mysterious seed is planted on its back that grows along with its body.

The seed on Bulbasaur's back stores nutrients, so it can survive for several days without eating. For a period after birth, it grows by absorbing the nutrients stored in the seed on its back.

Sometimes it can be seen taking a nap under the sun. After bathing in plenty of sunlight, the seed on its back grows vigorously."

"Wow! That's so amazing! Sister Fei Xiao, why didn't you give us this earlier? Flipping through books is exhausting, okay?"

Fei Xiao turned her head away slightly, giving no answer.

She couldn't exactly say she didn't have them before, and that she had bought one for each of them as soon as she got the points.

...

"Bulba?"

After coming out, Bulbasaur spotted the stranger in front of it and instantly went on high alert.

Seeing the little guy's fierce expression, Lin Siyu felt a pang of heartache.

She tried to Mimic the way she had befriended Dragonair, hoping to build a good relationship this way.

But Bulbasaur wasn't buying it at all.

"Bulba!"

With a cold snort, it quickly moved away from her and found a tree to lean against.

"Don't be discouraged. It's just a kid; if the first impression of humans was that terrible, there's nothing you can do. If I hadn't saved its life, it wouldn't give me the time of day either."

Fei Xiao took it lightly; this Bulbasaur was actually being very restrained.

If it hadn't listened to Fei Xiao's advice, it would have just launched a few skills directly at her face.

Lin Siyu felt a bit better, though she also knew that the possibility of this Pokémon reconciling with humans was almost non-existent.

Meng Xi, in her spare moments, also witnessed all of this.

After spending a long time with Pokémon, they had come to completely love their existence.

But at this moment, the two of them realized how severe the conflict between many Pokémon and humans was.

If it was like this in the Dragon Country, then it was almost unimaginable in other countries that lacked any sense of humanity.

They had heard before that the Sakura Country had already launched an all-out offensive against the magical beasts.

They wondered...

...

Looking at the slightly helpless and sad atmosphere surrounding the two.

Even if Fei Xiao wasn't certain of their thoughts, she could guess them fairly accurately.

They had been under her protection before, so fortunately, they hadn't truly seen the cruel side.

If she hadn't held back a few times, it might be very difficult for them to accept mentally right now.

As for the places they couldn't see, they surely already had their own answers in their hearts.

"Don't carry a psychological burden. We aren't gods, and even gods... can die.

What we can do is strive forward and do our best in everything.

Don't leave yourself with regrets... and that's enough."

That pure white figure was reflected in their eyes.

Fei Xiao slowly stood up, raising her hand toward the meteors in the sky.

"Gods are not necessarily generous.

I too once prayed to the gods, asking Him not to let me witness falling stars again.

But... God never answered me."
