Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: The Pain of Life

"Well done. Your attack was decisive, without any hesitation. Although it was an assassination, taking someone's life so easily is indeed worthy of my praise."

On the grassy bank where the two had been talking earlier, Gilgamesh stood wearing his golden armor, still speaking with that arrogant smile on his face.

"If I did not possess the original prototypes of all Noble Phantasms and a way to counter your void state ability, I would likely not be qualified to fight you head on. After all, if I could not remember you or detect you, I would not even have the qualifications to fight."

Caelus gently stroked the Night Practice sword in his hand. In his eyes, there was no gravity or excitement about the impending bitter battle, only his usual calmness.

"Caelus, I have remembered your name. If we meet again in the future, do not look so lifeless. I would not mind sharing a drink with you."

"Now, bow down and submit."

Countless golden ripples opened at this moment. Swords, spears, halberds, axes, hooks, and forks, various weapons poked their heads out. Countless weapons corresponded to countless Noble Phantasms, and they were all uniformly aimed at Caelus standing opposite him.

Then endless attacks followed. Countless Noble Phantasms were launched from those golden ripples. The impact of each one was like a grenade, not to mention the various abilities these Noble Phantasms possessed.

Relying solely on this ability to carpet bomb with Noble Phantasms, if one's strength did not reach the level of a top tier Servant, they would not be qualified to fight Gilgamesh.

Because opponents below that level would be easily pulverized by these Noble Phantasms.

So, facing this continuous wave like bombardment of Noble Phantasms, how would Caelus respond?

"System, do I really have to say it out loud? What is the point of this?"

[System: Shouting out ultimate moves makes them look more imposing and cooler.]

"Fine."

Although Caelus still did not quite understand, he nodded in agreement. Facing the bombarding Noble Phantasms, he slowly exhaled and calmly recited.

"Nihilistic Vortex of Futility."

In an instant, those incoming golden Noble Phantasms were coated in a shade of gray white.

Gilgamesh looked solemnly at the gray barrier that had also enveloped him. This was the reason he had regained a portion of his adult intellect and abilities.

Perhaps because these Servants acted too much like real living beings, many people actually forgot one point, Servants are essentially life forms composed of magical energy.

Their bodies, their skeletons, their internal organs, the blood flowing through their bodies, and even the weapons they used to fight and the various abilities they released were essentially constructed from magical energy.

The advantage of this type of energy body is that after the body is damaged, it does not require a certain amount of healing time like a normal living organism. It only needs to replenish enough magical energy, and the body will quickly repair the damage, while also erupting with more powerful combat strength within a certain period.

But once this type of energy life form encounters something corrosive, it becomes troublesome.

For example, right now, even when placed at a higher energy level, the power of Nihility makes people feel nauseous just by looking at it.

In the instant he was enveloped by the barrier, countless doubts and questions appeared in Gilgamesh's heart. He questioned the meaning of his existence, the truth of his life, where he was going, his lineage, his power, his bonds, and his memories and existence.

A large number of philosophical questions kept flooding his mind. Gilgamesh snorted coldly, then his originally somewhat dim golden armor suddenly flashed with blinding golden divine light.

Relying on this momentary burst, he manipulated his treasury to open golden ripples, then pulled out a cylindrical sword.

"Tear through this land of nothingness. EA, Enuma Elish."

The sword, which looked as if it were composed of three rotating cylinders, began to spin continuously. Then it erupted with a crimson gale that swept through this land of nothingness. Even in this gray land, it still carried a crimson color.

Gilgamesh manipulated this crimson hurricane, capable of blowing away everything in heaven and earth, and attacked Caelus not far away. Looking at these gales that could break through nothingness, Caelus knew that with the longsword in his hand, he could not block this kind of attack.

Since he could not block it, he simply would not block it.

Caelus charged directly into the crimson torrent. His clothes were torn, his flesh was scraped away, and his bones were shattering. Even though everything on his body was disintegrating, he still did not stop his steps and continued charging forward.

Even though his body was being sliced by a thousand blades, and even his soul was being torn apart, the power of Nihility maintained his existence. Yes, this was an abnormally absurd situation. Clearly, it was a power with the characteristics of nothingness that should not exist at all, yet at this moment it was maintaining existence.

[System: So called nihilism is itself the best proof of existence.]

Gilgamesh watched Caelus, whose body was constantly collapsing and reforming, holding the longsword that had been damaged to the point that only the hilt remained, charging toward him. He looked at the subtle flame ignited in the void of the other party's eyes, whether from extreme pain or a slight desire for battle, and a smile appeared on his face.

"Very good. Very good. Remember this pain brought by this King. Precisely because it is life, one must remember this pain that symbolizes the existence of life."

The gale raised by the Sword of Rupture became increasingly violent. Even Caelus could not rely on his life level and energy to withstand this crimson storm and continue advancing. His body was violently blown backward and landed heavily on the ground hundreds of meters away.

Gilgamesh did not take advantage of Caelus being repelled to continue a fierce pursuit. Instead, he took a few bottles of potions from his treasury and drank them, instantly replenishing his somewhat depleted magical energy.

Taking advantage of the moment while Gilgamesh was drinking medicine, Caelus had already pieced together his body that had been shattered into pieces. He stood up from the pit he had smashed into the ground, wiped away the blood obscuring his vision, and looked at Gilgamesh standing in the distance watching him.

"I... I can feel some pain."

"Hahahaha."

Gilgamesh laughed loudly, pointing at the disheveled Caelus who had crawled out of the pit covered in a mixture of blood, flesh, and dirt.

"Remember well this thing that a living being can feel."

"Enuma Elish."

"Nihilistic Vortex of Futility."

The crimson torrent collided with a similar gray storm simulated by the power of Nihility.

In an instant, it felt as if all things in heaven and earth had lost their sound.
