Chapter 96 - "The Obsidian Spire"

Chapter 92: The Frozen Frontier

The journey toward the Shadow-Citadel led them far beyond the lush forests of the Silver Moon, into the jagged, ice-covered peaks of the Frozen Frontier. This was a land where the sun rarely touched the ground, and the air was so thin it felt like breathing glass. Silas, Elara, and Kaelen moved at the head of their small, elite task force, their breath coming in white plumes.

"The Citadel is built into the mountain itself," Kaelen explained, pointing toward a distant, obsidian spire that seemed to pierce the grey clouds. "The Council chose this place because the natural iron in the rocks dampens most magic. Even the Moon-Oak's influence will be weak here."

Silas adjusted his gear, his eyes sharp. "We don't need magic to do what's right. We have something they don't—purpose."

Elara looked back at the trail they had blazed. She could still feel the faint, warm tether of the Moon-Oak in her mind, but it was fading the further they moved into the cold. To compensate, she drew closer to Silas, their bond acting as a natural furnace against the biting wind.

Suddenly, the ground trembled. A massive snowdrifts at the base of the spire began to shift, revealing not just stone, but mechanical guardians—sentinels left behind by the Council's ancient technology to ward off intruders. These weren't wolves; they were soulless machines, cold and calculating.

"They aren't just hiding," Elara whispered, sensing the lack of life in the guardians. "They are preserving a world that was never meant to last."

"Then let's help it end," Silas growled, his golden aura flaring as he prepared for the first assault of the Frozen Frontier.
