Chapter 130: The King's Awakening
The cavern was a chaotic blur of silver light and snapping jaws. Thorne's attack on Elara was swift, a lethal arc of claws aiming for her heart. But he had underestimated the light that now burned within her.
Instead of cowering, Elara raised her hands. The air around her solidified into a shimmering barrier of pure lunar energy. Thorne's claws screeched against it like metal on stone, but he couldn't break through.
"Silas, ignore them!" Elara's voice was strained, her face pale as the effort drained her life force. "The last chain! Break it now, or we all die here!"
Silas saw Thorne preparing for a second, more powerful strike. He knew he only had seconds. If he turned to fight Thorne, the King would remain bound, and the Elders would eventually overwhelm them. If he broke the chain, he would unleash a power that might destroy them all.
"Forgive me, Moon-Oak," Silas roared, his eyes turning a deep, abyssal violet—a color that matched the Sleeping King's.
He swung the obsidian blade with every ounce of strength in his body. This time, he didn't just aim for the chain; he channeled his own Alpha blood into the sword. The blade turned white-hot, slicing through the final silver link as if it were silk.
The silence that followed was terrifying.
The silver chains fell to the floor with a hollow clang. For a moment, the King remained still, his head still bowed. Then, slowly, he stood up. As he rose, the stone ribs of the cavern began to crack and crumble. The Moon-Oak above groaned in agony, its roots pulling back into the earth.
The King's tattered robes transformed into a flowing cloak of shadows, and the wolf at his feet—the First Alpha's spirit—let out a final, mournful howl before dissipating into mist.
"Finally," the King whispered, his voice no longer dry, but rich and commanding. He looked at Thorne, who was now trembling in fear. "You wanted to keep your power, Elder? Then let me show you what true power looks like."
With a flick of his wrist, Thorne and the other Elders were thrown against the walls, pinned by invisible shadows. Then the King turned his gaze toward Silas and Elara.
"You broke the covenant, young Alpha," the King said, stepping down from his root-entwined throne. "Now, a new one must be written. And it will be written in the blood of those who kept me in the dark."
