Exams were drawing closer, and the entire castle seemed to grow heavier under the weight of them. The usual laughter and running in the corridors had thinned out. In their place were students walking with open books, muttering dates and definitions under their breath.

The atmosphere was even thicker in Ravenclaw Tower.

No one was indifferent to exams. Ravenclaw was not the grade-obsessed house people sometimes imagined, but the tower was full of students who had spent the year chasing their own private obsessions. Now they were hungry to prove what they had learned—not necessarily to rank higher than anyone else, but simply to walk away from their favorite subjects with results that felt bright and satisfying.

"Who the hell shut down the chocolate shop?"

"Gotta be McGonagall. Those things were technically of unknown origin. Against school rules from the start."

"I talked to Fred and George. They said if you're running any kind of side business in this place you have to be careful—really careful. The chocolate shop got too big, too noticeable. Of course the teachers came looking."

"Yeah, but I bet whoever's behind it won't just give up. They'll open a new channel eventually."

"True. But that's next term's problem. Or maybe the owner's a seventh-year and won't even be here next year."

Hector and Anthony kept glancing sideways at the quiet corner of the common room where the voices drifted over.

Charlie cleared his throat lightly, pulling their attention back.

"So. Magical History. Anything else you two still want to ask about?"

Anthony turned around and thought for a second. "I think we're good?"

"Definitely good," Hector said, shooting Anthony a look and then giving Charlie the same treatment. "If we already knew what we were missing, we wouldn't need the exam."

"Fair point."

Charlie smiled and leaned back into the sofa. "All right. Random quiz time."

"When was the Werewolf Code of Conduct issued?"

Anthony jumped in the second the question left Charlie's mouth. "Eighteen-oh-one!"

Charlie simply shook his head. Hector answered at an unhurried pace. "Sixteen thirty-seven."

"Anthony, eighteen-oh-one is when the Ministry passed the Werewolf Registration Act. The Werewolf Code of Conduct was issued in sixteen thirty-seven—before the Ministry even existed. It came from the Church."

"Ah… right. Yeah, I remember now." Anthony gave his own head a rueful slap.

He sighed and spread his hands. "Can't really blame me. There's way too much werewolf legislation, and it's all pure memorization."

It sounded like an excuse, but both Charlie and Hector nodded in agreement.

"Werewolf law is a mess," Charlie said. "Codes and regulations revised over and over. Even after Wolfsbane Potion was invented, their rights still aren't properly protected."

Anthony continued, "There are plenty of clauses that sound like they protect werewolves. But according to my dad, the Ministry has an entire department whose actual job is hunting them down. They talk about protecting rights while they round people up and control them."

Charlie closed his book with a soft thump. "I don't think the problem ever gets fixed until Wolfsbane is as cheap and common as Coca-Cola."

"Who knows," Hector said, clearly ready to move on. "Anyway—History of Magic is done. How are you two doing with Astronomy?"

They had been focusing on the non-core subjects lately. During the long month of earlier revision those topics had been lower priority, so now it was time to patch the gaps.

Revision continued.

Two hours later, when eleven o'clock arrived, they stood, headed for the bathrooms, and got ready for an early night. Decent sleep before exams was non-negotiable.

Before bed Charlie climbed into the suitcase one more time to check on the potion still simmering inside.

---

Exam day arrived in the blink of an eye.

First-year Charms was the opening test. Theory in the morning. All four houses were packed into one large classroom. The professors handed out fresh anti-cheating quills, then the papers, and the exam began.

The questions were straightforward—mostly built around the three foundational pillars of spellcasting, plus a handful of specific charms. Charlie felt no difficulty at all.

The practical exam that afternoon was slightly more demanding. When he stepped into the empty classroom alone, Professor Flitwick pointed at a pineapple sitting on the desk.

The task: make the pineapple perform a tap-dance.

For Charlie it took almost no effort. He even had the leisure to tap a light rhythm on the desk with his fingers, accompanying the fruit.

"Elegant casting," Flitwick said with a nod. "I haven't marked your theory paper yet, but I expect you'll do very well.

Charlie—after the exam… no. Better you focus on the remaining tests first. Once everything is finished, come see me in my office."

Charlie raised an eyebrow, smiling. "This is the first time you've ever invited me over on your own, Professor. I'm guessing there's a surprise waiting?"

"You slippery little fox," Flitwick laughed, then waved him off. "Go on. It's still exam time. And send the next student in—Michael Corner."

Charlie gave a small bow and left.

The moment Michael Corner disappeared into the classroom, a small crowd of students closed in around Charlie. He had been the first one called in that afternoon—something he suspected was deliberate favoritism from Flitwick. Finish early, leave early.

Everyone else wanted the question.

"How was it? Hard?" Hermione asked at once.

"A little," Charlie said carefully. A pineapple had no arms or legs. That simple image made the required desire harder to form. Casting a dancing charm on a fruit was, strangely, more difficult than casting it on a living person.

Hermione looked even more anxious.

"What kind of question is that?" Ron cut in. "Shouldn't we just ask what we actually have to do?"

Charlie glanced at Ron's impatient face and told them.

Ron's color drained instantly. He stepped aside, pulled out his wand, and whispered desperately, "Come on, mate, do me a favor today—don't mess this up…"

Ron's wand had never come from Ollivander's. It was a hand-me-down from one of his brothers.

Charlie didn't leave right away. Only after Anthony and Hector emerged from the classroom did the three of them head upstairs together.

The exams lasted four days. The first day always carried the heaviest tension. By the remaining three, most people had loosened up—there was nothing left to change by worrying.

Except Hermione. She remained as tightly wound as ever. Even in the final minute before entering the Transfiguration exam she was still reciting Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration under her breath.

In what felt like a single blink, the afternoon of the fourth day arrived. Charlie set down the last letter of his final answer, slid the quill back into the inkwell, and turned to look out the window.

The day was still muggy. The classroom felt dim compared with the bright outdoor light. Looking out against the glare made everything hard to see—except the warm sun itself.

Perfect weather for lying on the grass and doing nothing, he thought.

Exams were over. He pulled out his pocket watch and checked the time.

Under normal circumstances the best next move would be a walk across the lawn, letting the breeze clear the last of the exam fog from his head. Anthony and Hector were already planning exactly that.

Charlie, however, had a stop to make first.

Professor Flitwick's office.
