Chapter 65 - Chapter 65: Evolved Manipulator, Rescue Plan

Evolved Manipulator, Rescue Plan

Arthur Sterling listened patiently as Mia's frantic, trembling voice filled the quiet apartment, letting her pour out every single detail of the disastrous events that had unfolded over the past few weeks. When she finally finished, completely drained of emotional energy, Arthur lapsed into a heavy, contemplative silence.

He gently stroked her long, soft hair, providing a steady, physical comfort while his highly intelligent mind aggressively processed the chaotic situation.

I genuinely cannot fathom exactly what on earth is going on inside Dominic Toretto's head,

Arthur thought, a surge of calculated exasperation tightening his jaw.

Arthur had personally tipped off Dom to the federal FBI's intense interest more than a full month in advance. He had even explicitly, undeniably exposed FBI Agent Brian O'Conner, who had been actively lurking nearby, desperately waiting for the perfect chance to infiltrate Dom's tight-knit family.

If Arthur had been in Dom's precarious shoes, operating a massive, highly illegal hijacking ring, he would have played a completely different, flawless tactical game.

He would have seamlessly pretended not to notice Brian's true identity or dangerous existence at all, keeping an incredibly low, unassuming profile and strictly doing absolutely nothing illegal until the massive federal heat died down.

After all, while the FBI handles many serious, highly complex domestic criminal cases, they are still fundamentally an intelligence agency bound by budgets and operational timelines; they absolutely cannot keep actively investigating Dom indefinitely without hard, undeniable proof.

In fact, if Arthur were Dom, he would have actively played the charismatic leader, acted incredibly friendly, and organically let the undercover Brian get close.

Then, he would have meticulously planted highly convincing fake evidence or carefully fabricated leads for Brian to aggressively chase, flawlessly shifting the FBI's massive investigative focus squarely onto his violent gang rivals or steering them in a completely wrong, highly embarrassing direction.

Meanwhile, he could have subtly caused Brian a massive amount of bureaucratic trouble and even used the chaotic, manufactured situations to flawlessly get rid of the undercover agent without leaving a single trace.

In the absolute worst-case scenario, having the massive advantage of Arthur's advance warning, Dom would have possessed plenty of critical time to quietly liquidate his physical assets, move his vulnerable family, and smoothly disappear under a flawless new identity in some other sprawling U.S. city. Getting a highly secure, untraceable fake ID on the gritty streets of America wasn't exactly a difficult task for someone with Dom's extensive underworld connections.

So, no matter exactly how hard Arthur racked his supernaturally enhanced brain, he simply couldn't figure out exactly why Dom would aggressively order his men to brutally teach Brian a physical lesson, and, while they were violently at it, completely smash the performance parts store that Brian was actively using as his federal cover.

Wasn't that aggressive, violent retaliation exactly as good as loudly telling the entire FBI that he had something massive and highly illegal to hide?

If the FBI absolutely hadn't come crashing down aggressively on Dom after that blatant, arrogant provocation, Arthur would have seriously suspected every single federal agent at the Los Angeles Bureau of being completely useless, incompetent deadweight.

Ugh!

Arthur sighed internally, his dark eyes narrowing in the dim light of the living room.

Is this the classic, arrogant muscle-head way of thinking? His skull must be completely full of absolute mush!

Even with Arthur's explicit, highly detailed warning, Dom had recklessly managed to land himself directly on the FBI's primary radar and securely behind thick steel bars.

This level of sheer, unadulterated stupidity was something Arthur had genuinely never imagined. If he could help it, his cold, calculating mind desperately wanted absolutely nothing to do with this massive, chaotic federal mess.

He had nearly a metric ton of pure gold bricks currently sitting in his private space, completely waiting to be liquidated.

But one single, heavy look down at Mia, gazing up at him so incredibly pitifully from the warm safety of his broad arms, and Arthur sighed a long, heavy breath.

Fine,

he decided with absolute, unwavering resolve.

I will pull him out.

With his core Intelligence attribute currently sitting at more than double the genetic average of a normal, healthy adult man, Arthur possessed both a razor-sharp, terrifying IQ and formidable logical reasoning.

Thus, in an extremely short, calculated amount of time, Arthur had flawlessly sorted out the entire chaotic situation and formed a complete, actionable rescue plan.

He immediately shifted his posture, pulling Mia slightly closer to comfort her terrified heart.

"Do not worry, Mia," Arthur murmured smoothly, his low, rumbling voice radiating absolute, unshakable confidence.

"Dom has only been in police custody for twenty-four hours. Knowing his incredibly stubborn, prideful nature, he absolutely will not confess to a single thing."

He wiped a stray tear from her pale cheek with his calloused thumb. "His loyal men should still be securely holding out as well.

Even if they are reckless idiots on the asphalt, they know perfectly well that the absolute second they talk to the feds, they are looking at seven-plus years inside a maximum-security penitentiary and probably a hell of a lot longer than that."

Mia froze completely, her body stiffening against his chest. She pulled slightly away from his warm embrace, her amber eyes widening in profound, silent shock.

"You..." she started, her voice trembling as a massive realization hit her.

Before she could even finish her stunned question, Arthur calmly cut in, his dark eyes locking flawlessly onto hers.

"You want to nervously ask exactly why I know they will get such incredibly heavy, federal sentences?" Arthur asked softly, offering a faint, knowing smile.

"The infamous California Highway Bandits that is Dom and his loyal crew, right?"

Arthur had actively wanted to bring this heavy, unspoken truth out into the open for a long while now; considering the disastrous current circumstances, he saw absolutely no tactical reason to hide his knowledge anymore.

"Back at the family garage, I carefully read the local street rumors and police reports about the California Highway Bandits," Arthur explained, his tone completely steady and analytical. "Later, I personally, closely inspected the highly modified performance cars your brother and his guys actively drive on the streets."

He leaned back slightly, keeping his gaze locked on her beautiful face. "Putting two and two together isn't exactly a massive, shocking leap of logic, is it? Otherwise, exactly why do you think, the absolute moment the FBI undercover agent asked me direct questions about your brother's illicit operations, I came straight to you to deliver the warning?"

Mia fell completely silent. The heavy, suffocating truth hung in the air between them.

She hadn't expected the young, incredibly handsome man sitting right in front of her the capable man with whom she had passionately shared her most intimate, vulnerable, skin-to-skin moments to be so terrifyingly perceptive and highly intelligent.

Several massive, lingering doubts in her anxious mind were flawlessly answered all at once.

During the past month-plus, the absolute primary reason Mia hadn't reached out to Arthur again, despite her profound, burning desire to see him, was her deep, suffocating fear that she might accidentally, verbally expose her big brother's massive, illegal secret.

Mia had grown up relying entirely and solely on her big brother for protection and survival.

Though she often heavily resented his strict, overbearing control and dangerous lifestyle, compared to the handsome, highly capable almost-boyfriend she had passionately slept with once but barely truly knew, her brother and his loyal men who had always fiercely looked after her clearly came first in her heart.

So, strictly acting at Letty's and her brother's paranoid request, she had agonizingly stayed away for more than a full month, violently resisting the daily urge to go see the handsome, imposing guy who had gently taken her precious first time.

She never genuinely imagined he had been clever enough to flawlessly piece together her brother's highly classified, criminal identity from a mere handful of scattered, environmental clues.

That must be exactly why he had twice gone out of his way to actively warn my brother about the feds,

Mia realized, a massive wave of profound emotion crashing over her.

Perhaps, exactly as he claimed, he really had done it all entirely for me...

Suddenly, Mia felt a massive, crushing weight completely lift from her slender shoulders; the highly complicated, agonizing feelings she had desperately suppressed for over a grueling month violently flared in a single instant, shifting completely from heavy guilt and quiet longing into deep, undeniable, unmistakable love.

"Arthur!"

She flung her arms around Arthur's thick neck once again this time significantly more eagerly, vastly more passionately than before.

Her soft red lips crashed directly into his, delivering a fervent, deeply lingering kiss that tasted of salt tears and raw, unfiltered relief.

"I am so sorry!" she whispered breathlessly against his mouth when their lips finally parted, profound guilt and deep affection shining brightly in her amber eyes.

Arthur merely smiled a soft, understanding smile and gently shook his head, saying absolutely nothing to ruin the highly emotional moment.

He absolutely wouldn't tell her that, purely out of sheer boredom over the past few days, he had casually skimmed a couple of highly advanced, psychological textbooks he had stored in his void, and just now, quite by complete, systemic accident, he had successfully unlocked two brand-new, supernatural skills: [Micro-Expression Analysis] and [Emotional Analysis].

Feeling himself drifting further and further into highly calculated, morally gray territory as a smooth manipulator, Arthur firmly decided to completely stop dwelling on such messy, internal thoughts. He wasn't a hero, but he absolutely wasn't going to abandon his woman.

He brushed a light, highly affectionate kiss across Mia's pale cheek and quickly, seamlessly changed the heavy subject back to their tactical reality.

"You came securely to see me, and you clearly haven't been aggressively arrested by the authorities yet," Arthur analyzed smoothly, his mind fully back on the operational chessboard. "Which flawlessly proves the FBI still currently possesses absolutely zero hard, physical evidence actively tying your brother to the California Highway Bandits."

"So our absolute top priority right now," Arthur continued, his voice dropping into a low, commanding tone, "is to aggressively hire the absolute best, most viciously tenacious defense lawyer we can possibly find in the city for your brother and his captured crew."

He outlined the legal strategy with terrifying precision. "We can legally let them take the standard rap for illegal street racing, and perhaps even for unauthorized, highly illegal vehicle modifications. Then, we aggressively pay massive amounts of cash to instantly bail them out of police custody."

"But we absolutely cannot let the federal FBI keep them securely locked up in holding rooms where they can be psychologically broken," Arthur stated with absolute finality.

Mia had never been naturally good at making massive, high-pressure decisions; hearing Arthur's cold, calm, flawlessly structured analysis, her amber eyes immediately lit up with profound hope, and she nodded eagerly.

"You are absolutely right, Arthur," she agreed, her voice finally steady. "Let's do it!"

Arthur, however, slowly shook his handsome head. Looking directly at Mia, he hesitated for a calculated, tactical moment, letting the heavy reality of the situation sink in.

"But flawlessly pulling that high-stakes legal maneuver off has one pretty massive, undeniable snag," Arthur explained seriously, his dark eyes holding hers.

"We absolutely need to hire the very best, most ruthless and tenacious lawyers in the state for your brother and the others. Just the initial legal retainer fee alone for that caliber of defense is absolutely no small sum of money."

He sighed softly, leaning back against the sofa cushions. "After that, their individual bail amounts will definitely not be a small, easily managed number either."

"And I am completely out of liquid cash right now!"
