Chapter 151 - Chapter 151: Back to Sovereign

Morning light spilled softly through the massive windows of the Wolfe mansion.

The rain from the night before had finally stopped, leaving everything outside washed clean and quiet.

For the first time in days, the house didn't feel tense.

Just still.

Lillian woke slowly, the warmth beside her grounding her before she was fully aware of anything else.

Sebastian.

He was still asleep beside her, one arm loosely around her waist, his breathing steady against her shoulder.

Even in sleep, he stayed close now.

Like distance had become something unfamiliar to him.

Lillian watched him for a moment, expression softening.

Carefully, she brushed her fingers through his hair.

Sebastian shifted slightly, unconsciously leaning into her touch.

A small smile tugged at her lips.

Then she checked his temperature.

Better.

No fever.

Just tired.

Relief settled quietly in her chest.

For a moment, she stayed still.

Watching him breathe.

Then Chloe's words from earlier that week surfaced in her mind again.

"Sebastian is definitely in love with you."

Lillian looked down at him.

She didn't doubt that.

Not anymore.

He showed it in everything he did.

But he never said it.

And that silence still left something unsettled in her chest.

Sebastian stirred slightly, then slowly opened his eyes.

For a moment he looked disoriented.

Then he saw her.

And immediately relaxed.

"Morning," Lillian said softly.

"…Morning," Sebastian replied.

His arm tightened slightly around her instinctively.

Lillian smiled faintly.

"You're getting clingy."

Sebastian closed his eyes again briefly.

"You say that like it's a problem."

"It isn't."

And it wasn't.

They got ready a short while later.

Sebastian was already dressed when Lillian stepped back into the room.

Fully composed.

But quieter than usual.

"You're sure you're ready to go back today?" she asked.

"I'm fine," he said immediately.

Too quickly.

Lillian studied him for a second longer, but didn't push.

"Just don't overwork yourself."

"I won't."

She didn't look fully convinced—but nodded anyway.

The drive to Sovereign was quiet.

Not uncomfortable.

Just different.

Sebastian stared out the window more than usual.

Thinking.

Lillian noticed, but didn't interrupt.

Sovereign was already active when they arrived.

Glass, steel, movement.

The familiar rhythm of power and precision.

Staff straightened immediately as Sebastian entered.

"Mr. Wolfe," several greeted.

Sebastian gave small nods in return.

Controlled.

Professional.

Familiar.

But something about him felt slightly withdrawn today.

Lillian walked beside him toward the executive floor.

"You're going to take it easy," she reminded quietly.

"I will."

"You said that this morning."

A brief pause.

"I meant it."

Lillian didn't respond, but her gaze lingered on him a moment longer than usual.

Chloe was already at her desk on the executive floor when they arrived.

She looked up immediately as they stepped out of the lift.

"Morning," she said.

Her eyes briefly moved over Sebastian.

Then back to Lillian.

Something unreadable flickered in her expression.

Lillian didn't notice.

Sebastian simply walked past toward his glass office.

Routine.

Familiar structure returning.

Chloe watched him go.

Then leaned slightly toward Lillian.

"He's back," she said quietly.

"Yes," Lillian replied.

"But?" Chloe added.

Lillian frowned slightly.

"But what?"

Chloe didn't answer immediately.

Just watched Sebastian through the glass wall as he sat down and opened his laptop.

"…Nothing," she said finally.

But she didn't sound convinced.

Inside the office, Sebastian worked.

Or tried to.

Emails.

Reports.

Decisions.

Everything normal.

Everything in place.

But his focus drifted more than once.

He reread the same line.

Paused longer than necessary.

Something kept intruding.

Not work.

Something else.

Something quieter.

He leaned back slightly, eyes unfocused for a moment.

Then refocused sharply.

Work first.

Always work first.

Outside, Lillian settled at her desk.

Chloe remained standing for a moment longer.

"You sure he's okay?" Chloe asked quietly.

"He just recovered," Lillian replied.

"That's not what I mean."

Lillian looked up.

Chloe nodded slightly toward the glass office.

"He feels different."

Lillian followed her gaze.

"…He's fine," she said again.

But her tone was less certain this time.

Inside the office, Sebastian paused again.

His hand hovered over his keyboard.

Then stopped.

He reached for his phone.

Typed something.

Paused.

Deleted it.

His expression tightened slightly.

Then he locked the screen and set it down.

A little later, Lillian entered his office.

"Meeting in ten," she said.

Sebastian looked up.

"I know."

A pause.

Then, quieter:

"You've been quiet today."

Sebastian blinked once.

"I'm working."

"That's not what I meant."

Silence.

He didn't answer immediately.

Finally:

"I'm fine."

Lillian studied him for a moment.

Then nodded.

"Okay."

She turned to leave.

"Lillian."

She stopped immediately.

Turned back.

"Yes?"

Sebastian hesitated.

Just a moment too long.

"…Stay a moment."

Lillian blinked softly.

Then stepped back in.

"Alright."

She didn't sit.

Just stood near his desk.

Waiting.

Sebastian looked at her.

Not like he was thinking about work.

Like he was thinking about something he didn't know how to say.

Then—

nothing.

No words followed.

Only silence.

Lillian tilted her head slightly.

"You sure you're okay?"

"Yes."

But his eyes stayed on her longer than his answer did.

Lillian exhaled softly.

"Okay."

And when she finally left again, Sebastian didn't look away from the door until it closed.

And something in his chest tightened—quietly, steadily—

because for the first time since returning to Sovereign,

work wasn't the only thing he was struggling to understand.
