The security room of the Devil's Nation was filled with the sound of cooling fans because of the heat from the servers. Dozens of monitors illuminating the room adding colors to the light the room was bathed in.
Valerius Pov
Sitting in front of the laptop and servers wasn't compared to everything I saw a few hours back. My head was replaying the unauthorized file of the Donna's face.
This was the place I have total control over but a woman's face has made me lose control. I sat there for more than one hour staring into space my fingers hovering above the keyboard.
I always knew from the moment I met her there was something so striking and haunting beneath that mask. Her cold sharp eyes reflected so much pain. Eyes like the stars in the sky complementing her name;Lyra.
The sound of the door jolted me out of my thoughts and there she was. The woman that made me lose control on my laptop for over one hour. She was wearing her gold cheetah mask. Anyone from a distance would tell she wears it even in her sleep; a part of her skin she made but I learnt on my very first day it was just for protection and when she is out of reach from anyone it comes off.
"Valerius, any progress on the instructions my father left ?" Her voice cold.
I looked at her, really looked at her and all I could see was her face even with the mask on. I turned away and kept quiet for a while then I turned towards her.
As a world class hacker information was much more easier to me than any amateur but my favorite data to decode has just been added to my list.
"No boss, information takes lots of time. Even for a ghost it's not easy." I lied.
"I need those information soon. She snapped. "I don't care how you are going to get them but be fast about it."
One hour ago, I had bypassed the hospital's encrypted firewall. I had seen everything. Her schedule was hectic, perfect academic records with honors and medical files.
She didn't just perform only surgeries; she performs miracles and no patient she has ever attended to had been lost. The same way she handled her medical life was also the same way she leads the Vicenzo empire.
"But I did find some things about you."
She stepped closer her heels clicking against the floor.
"Finding something about me is different from why you are here. You are here to help me bring down my enemies I didn't give you access to dissect my lifestyle."
"I know about the donations you make to orphanages. The money you spend on treatment for kids. The untraceable surgeries of patients you operated on at their homes for free. You aren't just a surgeon."
I stood up and whispered.
"You are a saint playing sinner. And I'm the only one who can see the real thing Alessia or should I call you Lyra."
She froze immediately.
"Don't call me that." Her voice was shaking and her hands trembling slightly.
"I do recognize the encryption style of the hospital that's why it took me as few minutes. It was designed by a conglomerate that supposed to have gone bankrupt fifteen years ago. A conglomerate my father sat at the head of."
Alessia looked into my eyes for a few seconds whether she was analyzing what I just said or something else I couldn't decipher.
"You are the remnant of a dynasty Valerius. The same logic you use to dismantle code is the same as the ones used in hostile takeovers. She paused realizing the gravity of the situation. "So wait you mean this ? If they are able to link my medical files and find clues to me being the Vincenzo heiress they will try to eliminate me silently. If they get their hands on the files of me never loosing a patient which means I can perform a surgery on any of my injured men it's even more dangerous."
I already know what she looks like and the thought of seeing her face bare in a hallway without a surgical mask by those monsters was unbearable.
"They won't find you I promise." I stepped closer. "But you have to be careful Lyra. From tomorrow you go to the hospital with full surveillance."
"I don't need you as my bodyguard neither do I need protection from anyone."
"Who said anything about asking for your opinion? I'm just doing my part as I was instructed by your father. You need a Ghost. Aside from my sister and Kaelen you are the only one in this world permitted to call me Lucian. Others who called the name didn't live to complete the story about me. If you are going to call me Lucian then you accept any deal that comes with it."
Before she could say anything Kaelen's voice came through my phone.
"Lucian, someone tried to access the staff locker rooms cameras. They are looking for her."
"Thanks for the info, Kaelen." I ended the call.
"Well I'm always few steps ahead of you and you couldn't have heard about it till later. So still thinking of not needing my help or protection?"
"Fine, not like I have any other options at this critical moment. A surgeon and a Ghost." She whispered. "But it actually sounds tragic."
"It's tragedy and a masterpiece disguised in innocence." I countered.
I have seen her face and I'm not going to let anyone see it till she is ready. We both have wars to win.
Author's Note
Thanks for reaching the end of chapter six. We just learnt Valerius isn't just a genius hacker but a remnant of a dynasty.
How does it feel for Lucian calling her Lyra?
Was it too much because she is his boss, intentional to piss her off or romantic?
A small request.
