Chapter 25 – The Line Between Two Worlds

---

Early the next morning, the group had left the intermediate station.

No warnings. No traps. Only a silence so deep it was unsettling.

---

Rei walked ahead.

He could clearly feel the flow of magic—different now.

The un-summonable zone had left a thin, fragile aftershock.

Not enough to break the world, but enough for the academy's system to start noticing.

---

Lira looked around, exhaling.

"You think there's more ahead?"

Rei didn't answer immediately.

He only observed, each step measuring every variable in the environment with automatic precision.

---

Elias stepped closer, voice serious.

"You need to know—a part of the outside-system zone might exist within your body."

Rei looked at his hand, where spatial fluctuations still lingered faintly.

"…Distortion?" he asked, calm.

Elias shook his head.

"Not physical distortion. It's… existence beyond definition. Part of the empty zone has attached to you."

---

A long silence followed.

Lira said:

"So… you won't be like normal people anymore?"

Rei answered evenly:

"…Not like anyone. And not 'human' in the system's eyes."

---

Elias looked at him, eyes a mix of concern and calm.

"That also means—you could create effects unintentionally. A small mistake could spread to other zones."

Rei nodded lightly.

"…I know."

---

---

They continued.

The forest gradually gave way to empty fields.

Magic returned to normal, but small fluctuations still pulsed around Rei—like the unsteady heartbeat of an entity just emerging from a conflict between two states of existence.

---

Lira turned to Rei:

"Are you scared?"

Rei shrugged.

"…Uncertain. Not fear. Just… awareness."

Elias stepped close, voice low:

"This is the first time I've seen you not react automatically. Not fighting. Not surviving… just perceiving."

Rei nodded slightly.

"…Seems like this time, even I am learning."

---

The three continued toward the center of the un-summonable zone, where spatial fluctuations remained.

---

At the edge, a faint image appeared:

A dim, flickering light in midair, like an incomplete part of the world struggling to exist.

Rei stepped closer.

He did nothing, only observed and focused.

The internal system recorded:

> "Interaction with outside-system zone: activated"

"Spatial adaptation: increasing"

"Physical damage: unknown"

---

Rei inhaled deeply.

"…I can stabilize it, but what will the cost be?"

Elias looked at him, heavy-eyed:

"The cost… is yourself. You've brought part of the empty zone into your body, and it will not disappear."

---

A second passed.

Rei closed his eyes, sensing the flow of magic, the rhythm of spatial fluctuations around him.

"…Not a fault," he said.

"Just… existence."

Lira frowned.

"You… choose to exist like that?"

Rei opened his eyes, voice even:

"…Not a choice. Just acceptance."

---

Elias sighed, stepping back.

"Alright. I'll stay close, but you are the one who decides your own limits."

---

Meanwhile, far out of sight:

The tall, thin man watched from the crystal.

A faint smile appeared:

"You've begun bringing the empty zone into the world. This will make things… interesting."

---

End of chapter.

---

---

Arc 2 continues to develop.

Rei is no longer merely a "system exception."

He is becoming… the line between two worlds.
