He wore a long black cloak, half of his face hidden.

Just stood there, observing.

> "Why?" he asked, voice low.

The man stepped closer.

> "The academy no longer controls you. We want to… harness your potential."

Rei was silent for a few seconds.

> "I am not a tool."

The man shrugged:
> "No one is a tool… until they are forced to choose. But I won't pressure you, at least not yet."

He turned to Elias, eyes cold:
> "… If you let go, what will they do?"

Elias closed his eyes for a moment:
> "… They will try. But I won't allow it to happen."

The tall, thin man chuckled softly:
> "I don't need your permission. Just that he lives."

A fluctuation appeared in the room.

Not caused by magic.

Just… the presence of Rei.

The man stopped, frowning.

> "He… is reading us. Without using magic."

Rei replied, voice even:
> "… I am observing you in return. No action needed yet."

The man smiled:
> "Good. That's exactly what I want to see. He's defining himself… while still surrounded."

Elias placed a hand on Rei's shoulder:
> "… No need to rush. They won't force you today."

Rei only nodded, eyes still on the stranger.

> "… But tomorrow… will be different."

The tall, thin man stepped back.
---
> "Noted. And I will wait for the right moment."

The gate closed.

The fluctuations around Rei subsided.

But in his eyes, something else appeared:

> Not to control anyone.
> Only… to understand those who observe him.
