Chapter 11: The Blue-Eyed Monkey Incident

(Jay's POV)

Just when I thought the chaos in our house had reached its peak…

The doorbell rang.

Mom looked up from the kitchen.

"Oh! That must be my cousin."

Aries frowned.

"Another adult?"

Percy sighed.

"Great."

Mom walked to the door and opened it.

Standing there was a cheerful woman holding the cutest little toddler I had ever seen.

"Maria!" the woman said excitedly.

Mom immediately hugged her.

"Liza! It's been years!"

My attention was completely focused on the tiny human in her arms.

The baby had big round eyes and tiny curls.

And she looked like a walking marshmallow.

Mom smiled and waved us over.

"Kids, this is my cousin Liza."

Liza waved.

"And this little troublemaker is Jules."

The baby blinked at us.

Then suddenly waved her tiny hand.

My heart exploded.

"Oh my God."

I immediately rushed forward.

"Can I hold her?!"

Liza laughed.

"Of course."

She carefully handed the baby to me.

The moment Jules was in my arms, she stared at me curiously.

Then she grabbed my hair.

"Ow— okay— strong baby."

Aries leaned against the wall.

"Jay found someone shorter than her."

"ARIES SHUT UP."

Mom smacked the back of his head.

"Behave."

I carried Jules around the living room while she looked at everything with fascination.

"You're so cute," I whispered.

She giggled.

Percy walked past us on his way to the kitchen.

Big mistake.

My evil brain activated immediately.

I turned to the baby dramatically.

"Jules."

The baby looked at me.

"Do you want to see something interesting?"

Aries suddenly looked suspicious.

"What are you planning?"

I ignored him and carried Jules toward Percy.

Percy froze when he saw me approaching.

"No."

"Yes."

"Jay… don't."

I held Jules up slightly so she could see Percy clearly.

"Baby," I said sweetly.

"Look."

I pointed at Percy's face.

"This is a blue-eyed monkey."

The room went silent for one second.

Then Aries exploded with laughter.

"OH MY GOD."

Percy's eyes widened.

"EXCUSE ME?!"

Jules blinked.

Then she pointed at Percy.

"Monke."

Aries collapsed on the couch.

"THE BABY CONFIRMED IT!"

Percy looked betrayed.

"YOU TAUGHT HER THAT!"

I nodded proudly.

"Education is important."

Percy pointed at me.

"You're a terrible influence!"

Jules suddenly started laughing.

Which made everyone laugh even harder.

Aries wiped tears from his eyes.

"This is the best day of my life."

Percy crossed his arms.

"Oh yeah?"

He walked toward Aries and grabbed Jules' tiny hand.

"Jules."

She looked at him curiously.

"Look at that tall guy over there."

He pointed at Aries.

"That's a giraffe."

Jules turned her head slowly.

Then she stretched her tiny neck dramatically.

"Giraf."

Aries stopped laughing instantly.

"…Traitor."

The entire room exploded again.

Even Mom and Liza were laughing in the kitchen doorway.

Mom wiped tears from her eyes.

"I shouldn't have brought a baby here."

Liza laughed.

"This is the most entertaining house I've visited."

Dad walked in from the hallway just in time to hear Jules say something again.

"Monke!"

Percy pointed proudly.

"See? She likes me."

"THAT IS NOT A COMPLIMENT."

Jules then pointed at me suddenly.

Everyone waited.

She thought for a moment.

Then said proudly:

"Smol."

The entire house went silent.

Aries slowly turned toward me.

Then he started laughing again.

"THE BABY CALLED YOU SMALL!"

"JULES!"

I stared at the traitor in my arms.

"You were supposed to be on my side!"

Jules clapped happily.

"Smol! Smol!"

Percy pointed at me.

"Justice."

Aries added dramatically.

"The smallest member of the house has been officially confirmed."

Mom walked over and took Jules from me before I could stage a baby rebellion.

"Alright, enough bullying."

Dad shook his head with a smile.

"This house is unbelievable."

But honestly…

As everyone continued laughing and teasing each other…

I couldn't stop smiling.

For the first time in a long time…

My chest didn't feel heavy.

It just felt warm.

Even if a tiny toddler had just officially declared me…

Smol.
