Milo reached them first, hurtling across the grass with the wild, uncoordinated energy of a creature who had not yet learned that running could lead to falling. His face was flushed a deep pink from exertion, his dark curls plastered to his forehead in damp ringlets, and his eyes were wide with the particular urgency of a child who had discovered something of immense and world-altering importance.
"Uncle Sal! Uncle Sal!" The words tumbled out of him in a breathless rush, tripping over each other in their haste to be heard. "We found a caterpillar. It's very, very fat. The fattest caterpillar in the whole world, probably. Maybe even the universe."
"Probably," Salvar agreed, setting his tiffin aside on the bench. The chopsticks he had been holding clattered softly against the metal rim. "That is a significant claim. Are you certain it qualifies as the fattest in the universe?"
