Alaric
The bedroom was cold after the shower. Nico pushed the glass door open and the air conditioning hit my skin, and I shivered hard enough that he laughed at me.
"You are shaking," he said.
"It is freezing in here."
"It is twenty degrees."
"Then twenty degrees is freezing," I said, and he laughed again.
The lamps on either side of the bed were on and the curtains were drawn. The bed had not been touched.
We did not go to it.
I sat down on the stool in front of the vanity with a towel around my waist, and my legs felt so loose I was not sure I could have walked much farther anyway.
For ten days I had been sleeping three hours a night. I had driven a whole race in Miami with a knot in my throat that would not go away no matter how much water I drank. Now it was gone, and I did not know what to do with myself without it.
Nico stood behind me. I had already dried his hair, badly, and it was sticking up on one side.
